Which ship after a type 7 or keep it?

I have a Type 7 transporter, with 212 cargo capacity, been trading since the start of the game, currently got a nice run going selling palladium, making around 500K cr in a single jump retuen trading run. I now have 10,000,000 CR, the next ship that interests me is the Python, but it just seems so far away at 57,000,000 cr. So I am think of buying a new ship and keeping the type 7 for when I want to raise some decent credits trading again, the 2 best ships I've owner so far are the Cobra and the Asp, so considering going to the ASP and kitting it out and go do some exploring/bounty hunting, what are other people going to from the Type 7? there just doesn't seem to be a ship above it that is easy to reach?

Imperial Clipper for 22.3Mcr.

Elegance, faster, more teeth due good weapon slots, cargo up to 248t but on the downside a scratch to the hull cost alot.

If like me you like the type 7, i would go until you have enough for the Python with upgrades or just onto the type - 9 with upgrades, i know its a long haul but i love my type 7 and i have a nicely modded Cobra for some fun when needed. for me the main reason i like the type 7 is the running costs as soon as you jump into a clipper the repair and refueling costs just rocket, cutting into your profit so although the clipper does have more cargo room alot more profit goes into running costs.

Edit- i went from Type 7 to clipper then back to type 7

Not really considered the clipper as I thought you had to have a Baron rank to buy it? as I've been trading, I've not really done any rating with the factions, so have no rankings. Is it just running missions etc to raise rank for imperials?

Thinking of doing similar myself, keep the type 7 (great ship for trading large cargo sizes at reasonable costs) at my trade home for Palladium and buy a Cobra to spec up, or trade abit more to buy an Asp and spec up, I'm bored of being interdicted and hitting the boost button and jumping again, I fancy stopping and turning around...... ;)

Lower rank suffices if you're friendly/allied with station that sells clippers.

@OP: Clipper is a whole lot more fun. Just equip a fuel scoop though (the cargo space you have to give up for it wouldn't cover the fuel costs anyway).

T6 < T7 < T9 < Conda < Buy planets.

From there you buy whatever you want as a combat ship if your tired of trading.

Actually, this was patched out in 1.05. You must be a Baron legit now.

Regarding other comments higher up:

T7 > Clipper > Python gets you there fastest. Each one is a definite cargo capacity boost over the previous one. No sense sitting in a T7 or Clipper all the way to T9. A trading Python can carry 284 cargo with a 14 Ly laden jump range. Clipper and Python are both way faster and more fun to fly than a T7, for sure.

If you're a good trader, you can move from a Clipper into a Python in less than a week. It took me only 3 days, but I've been sick so had some extra playtime beyond my normal "hard casual" hours per week.

How do you get allied/friendly with a station?

It was? Oh, ... guess I missed the memo (yea, to be honest - I didn't read the patch notes; shame on me).

Yep, I went on the elite wiki page and it said it was fixed in version 1.06, would be fun if FD modified that you can sell ships direct to other players, rather than just stations, so you could be a spaceship dealer, selling ships unavailable based on rank at a premium to jump the queue, or selling them with rare addon's that are hard to find at stations.

Type 7 did the job but that was all.

The Clipper on the other hand not only does a better job (better range and cargo) but it is also a great ship to fly.
