Station randomly turning hostile, careful with point defense!

EDIT: Save your ship and your life. Be careful with activated point defenses around stations.

Now I'm a proud member of that infamous club too.

I was reading all the horror stories and people gettin' blown up for apparently no reason. Everyone was like, "yeah, you probably had a fine or something" and I just though nah, this will never happen to me.

I undocked and the station turned red within about 3 seconds. Had the presence of mind to quickly kill the game process to evade the 3 million loss of my freighter with a full haul.

I have:
  • No weapons on my ship
  • No fines
  • No bounties
  • Friendly rep with the station

Something I noticed is, that stations sometimes randomly change status. Sometimes when I arrive and start docking it is neutral and then suddenly changes color to green to indicate friendly status.

Thoughts?

Yeah I've noticed this too, sometimes stations I'm Allied with remain orange.

That's strange. They usually turn green when I target them or after a bit. I can't remember to ever have seen them not turn green when I'm friendly/allied.

I've noticed that - when I do, it seems the proper faction isn't controlling the station. For example:, according to the system map, this station is owned by Empire Assembly, but the actual station targets as having no faction at all:

The station that opened fire on me is controlled by the faction that is friendly to me, so that's not a factor here... I think. Unless a station can lose its faction temporarily.

You did not, by any chance, happen to have a point defense system on your ship? There seem to be some shenanigans concerning them.

And yes, I did read you had 'no weapons', that is not exactly unambiguous on saying if you had anything at all installed in the weapon/utility slots or not :p

OMG, yes I do. O_O

Oh it makes sense now... someone was shootin' seekers and dumbfires close to/inside the station.

Wow... looks like I'll have to make a quick trip to the outfitting section.

Glad to be of assistance. Waiting for 1.1 to come and fix a ton of problems, this one included (and introduce new ones as well, I'll wager)

I get the green to orange bug as well on every allied or friendly station I visit. Its usually fixed itself by the time I'm ready for takeoff again.

I turn my point defense off near stations after I had a Player shoot missile at me (from around the side of the station). My point defense hit the station trying to defend me and resulting in the station retaliating.
