Request for some common courtesy ingame.

Just check the green lights next time. The inside and outside green lights are on the same side. If everyone followed the incorrect assumption that these indicate lanes, there'd be more crashes.

Uh... no they're not, which is exactly why we can use them as lane indicators to allow small/medium ships to both enter and exit the station at the same time.

Only if you keep green on your left each time you enter or exit. When you look in or out of the station, the inside green is at the same side as the outside flashing red, and vice versa.

That is stupid man! When i'm taking off i see that stupid docking GUI instead of radar, is it so hard to show radar when taking off and show landing gui only when request docking is active? When you're taking off in spot near exit you'll see radar at last second before going out when you're moving fast.

I agree, the sensor should appear much sooner. I use head tracking and I"m flying a cobra, so at least I'm able to look up and see if there's anything immediately above me.

It's been confirmed by a developer that the lights are not lane indicators. There's no such thing. They're there for up-down orientation. This helps you locate your pad. Keep the green light to your right for "right way up".

The docking conventions are: one ship at a time, smaller ships give way to larger ships.

If you try to push in, in the smaller ship, you only have yourself to blame.

+1 as I learned something :)

Plus this question is moot as NPC ships don't give a fig if you're on the left, right or centre. They always fly down the middle and if they're bigger than you, you're out of luck.

am strickly applying to the rules right of way: if it is larger avoid, if it is smaller well...
Apart from that I will always when someone are blown up, write sincere condolences, attend services and be a good show.
( I will even pat the kiddies on the the head and cheek kiss all the ugly aunts and grannies)
But my my right of way relays on my tonnage and shields. I will get trough.
(unless its my copilot Cmdr jameson or Jack Daniels, who is at the helm)
hic

cheers Cmdr's

AS long as people realise a T7 cant manoeuver like a mini, then I am always happy to move to the side a bit. Although I do like to bump NPC's.

Afternoon Commanders,

I will attempt to try to clear this up....!

The lights are orientation lights so you can align your ship to the station in a consistent way. If you enter a station with the green on your right and red on your left you will find that the docking pad numbers are arranged front to back, clockwise, starting from below you. For legacy reasons, Pad numbers 1 and 13 were reversed. This is now fixed and will be included in a future update. All other pads follow a consistent numbering convention.

There is no “traffic light” system in operation.

The reason for the red lights on the cage flashing and the green ones kept steady is to help people with colour-blindness difficulties distinguish between them.

Be considerate – use your scanner and look around, if someone is coming through the portal be patient and let them pass.

Small ships should give way to large ships.

If commanders wish to use the “green” side of the portal to enter or exit from the station it is up to them, but it is not a convention, rule or the intended use of the lights. Large ships will need to use the centre of the portal to pass through anyway. NPC ships will always pass through the middle.

If you exit the station with the inner green light on your right and the red on your left, you will be orientated the same way up as an incoming ship, facilitating a gentlemanly wave between cockpit glass and the wish of good fortune between pilots.

Fly safe,

Simon

You're right, redacted that part from my post.

It wasn't needed anyway. The docking conventions are as stated in my post, which was confirmed by developers. One ship at a time, larger ships first.

We're free to pretend there's a lane policy if we wish but it's not the official one so anyone losing out because a player in a t9 rightfully enters the letterbox first loses out because they were in the wrong. Not the t9.

It's selfish to expect a t9 pilot to wait for smaller ships. They're the slowest ships in the game. And there's no room for anything else.

Simply the existence of the t9 should lend common sense to the fact that there are no lanes.

I've found the t7 to be surprisingly nimble with upgraded thrusters. Of course it's not a viper but it's pretty fun to be able to barrel into stations at high speed in what is essentially a giant brick. Being able to largely ignore smaller ships is also a big plus.

To the op: landing is the 40 seconds of actual gameplay that you get to experience once in a while when doing trade runs, so people want to make the most of it. Flying like a granny to avoid hurting small ships is boring, so just learn to fly out of the way (more fun for you as well this way)

I would just like to make a request for some courtesy in-game. When using the docking ports in stations, even though you have a much bigger ship than me, please, don't just plough into me and push me into the wall. I know your bigger and probably better than I am (at the moment), but remember when you had a small ship? The Docking Port is big enough for the both of us. I always exit the station on the correct side, to allow incoming ships a clear path. And it's kinda obvious that you are moving your ship to grind mine against the station bulkheads, applying lateral thrust as you pass me really does show you know, that is uncalled for.

You are obviously enjoying the game, hence the larger crafts (adder, python, asp and so on). How about letting me enjoy my game as well.

Thank You

Reasons like this, along with reduced lag/stutter, no pad queues, no getting attacked inside the station while docking, no mindless killers e.t.c are why I'm enjoying myself in private group mode.

When things calm down in the future, and a semblance of sanity returns, I may re-evaluate my position. :)
