Whilst obviously there are some that will stand by, against and undecided on this, I would like to share my thoughts and know yours about the bounty hunting etiquette you follow:
Personally I respect a fellow CMDR's target as their own, when I see a battle I will move into the area and make sure its A.I vs A.I else, I move on, I may help whittle down the shield/hull but I rarely do this as it may be seen as an act of "theft".
The only time I ever break this rule is when someone doesn't follow suit and attacks my target with the intent on stealing the kill, I remember there name and ensure to do the same to them when they engage the next target. That though is rare as it is more effort (and wasted ammo) than I want to spend, the next step however should they commit the sin a second time will split even more of the community into either hating me more or liking me less
.
Say I am fighting an elite cobra, he has a 25k bounty on him and the A.I is actually quite aggressive, its an intense fight but you are winning, when you have him down to <20% and you are making your (hopefully) final run on him, when out of nowhere another CMDR comes in and 'helps' by taking the bounty and the satisfaction of the kill from you. This is the worst thing you can do to me, my revenge is simple and I do this for two reasons:
1. I don't like the mechanic and I think it seriously needs reworking (Even though I use it to my advantage and I think the more people that get it done to them, the more more chance it has of getting fixed).
2. You didn't earn that bounty so I will take it from you, or send you packing.
(I know this sounds like I am spitting my dummy out and saying "Well if I can't have it, no one can!" That's because, I sort of am, and in my own eyes is a perfectly reasonable rational to have when all your effort is reduced to nothing but wasted ammo and hull repair credits)
Anyway, I will wait for that CMDR to engage a target, I will then make a mad dash in front of his ship with the sole intent for him to hit me and become wanted, at which point I let loose. I know 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that but this is reserved to the very special few that vulture in on kills (You know who you are) and if you act like a [Bad word] you deserve to be treat like a [same bad word].
The majority of the time the CMDR's get away and hopefully by the time they return they have dropped into a different instance to the once I was in.
My views will obviously cause a confliction with those out there that follow the "Every target is fair game" rule as they will think they did nothing wrong and I am being unreasonable, which is understandable, but not excusable!
So which rule do you follow - "Live and let live" or "Every ship is a goal"?
