Auto maintenance puncture repair kit advice

Is it worth taking an auto maintenance puncture repair kit if flying out to Barnard's Loop? Planning an extended trip with a lot of system mapping.

I haven't ventured out very far from civilized space, but I think the only threat to you out in space is getting too close to a star, which primarily is a hull-damage risk which the auto-repair module doesn't help with.

It weighs nothing, so why not? It can't repair the critical components such as hull, canopy, thrusters, ADS, etc though. Pretty much useless.

I bought one some time ago, it did absolutely nothing, I check it all the time and no damage was ever repaired that i could see......so I sold it.

You have to actually use it, despite it being called "auto". In the modules on the right panel select the module you want to repair.

unfortunately doesn't work on the most important module like thriusters which does make it a bit useless

Thanks for that, you know I wish this game was a bit clearer to understand, everything is hidden, its like a puzzle. If I bought an Auto Repair thing in real life the shop that sold it would tell you exactly what it does and doesnt do!

So consensus seems to be it's not worth it?

Yes it's worth it, I'm on a long trip out to Bernards loop stopping at quite a few locations. Am always careful but accident do happen, I purchased a B2 AFM and it repairs modules very quick, don't go with a cheap one, it can take ages just to repair 2%, even if you spend a few million you can sell it and get your cash back after your expedition.

One thing to note, if your FSD suffers damage it will start to develop fault's (Cutting out, refusing to charge) Trust me, it will drive you insane using a faulty FSD over long distances.

Things it cant repair -

Hull
Thrusters
Advanced Discovery scanner
And obviously it cant repair itself... My AFM is at 98% damage

since you are doing the same trip as me, I would definitely recommend these systems, they are enroute.

HYADUM - It has a ringed planet insanely close to a Supergiant
MINTAKA - Huge Blackhole
Spirograph nebula & NGC 1999 Nebula - Both beautiful single system Nebulae

Enjoy your trip dude!

I went out to Barnard's Loop in my Cobra for a week, I took a shield cell bank instead since on the way out and back you can run into a lot of interdiction happy NPCs. The AFM is pointless for short trips like that since it won't repair anything whose malfunction may actually get you killed.

You really need a shield cell bank against NPC's? It only takes the FSD to get to 80% to start developing faults. I couldn't think of anything more useless than a cell bank on a long range trip..... scratch that.. a docking computer
