Would one GTX 980 be enough for 60+ FPS at 4K?

Here's a quick vid in a RES.
It doesn't nail 60FPS, so I guess I'm wrong.
However, it's damn close and with G-Sync I don't notice the slowdown (or I wouldn't have made the claim in the first place)
So...I'm still happy with my setup.

Sorry about the quality, I just wanted to grab a quick vid and then I wanted to kill that wanted Anaconda :)

What are the rest of the settings?

Try actually flying around...and a station or two, and maybe more than two other ships in the view. I notice you are careful not to look in the direction of the planet.....

The simple point I am trying to make is that a single 980 is not enough to run this game at a constant 60fps+, because that's what the OP asked for.

Settings are set to MAX apart from AA which is off because I don't need it.

I was flying around, if you failed to noticeI was moving forward and rolling around. I was in RES which gives the lowest FPS of anywhere apart from the inside of a station. More than that there were multiple ships on screen and in combat.

I can fly round the outside of a station or outpost or a planet with a steady 60 FPS without issue so I went to a RES which is the tougher test.

One thing I have noticed from this exercise is that the frame rates do indeed seem to fall off by a few and then come back up again when a new object is loaded. You can see that in the first part of the video where the FPS drops to 55 as I get into range of the ships and then it climbs back to 59.9/60.0 (flickering) after a few seconds. This is disappointing since I have ED installed on an SSD. I'll check the speeds I'm getting from that SSD some time and post back.

My point is that a single 980 (strix) is capable of running this game at 4k perfectly well. Team it with a G-Sync monitor and there's definitely no need for SLI. Since there aren't any monitors (that I'm aware of) that can display 4k above 60Hz yet, I can't see the point of going higher.

Try that again inside a station :p
Yep, FPS is lower in a station. Normally 45-50 FPS. Gorgeous though!

I run this game at 4k and 60FPS on a single Asus 980 Strix which is a mild factory overclock.
I go slightly under 60FPS in stations but otherwise it is steady.
I also have a G-sync monitor so even when the frame rate drops, it's still smooth.

To put it bluntly, the 980 is a complete beast and makes everything else look stupid (apart from the 970 which is a complete bargain).

Same here... I've yet to hear my 980 fans start up yet either...
