Oh my. So let me get this straight: You dont like being attacked based upon the fact that you try to conquer Lave for your 'french' guild. And you think its mean that other people come there and stop you and that they should let you prepare for war until YOU are ready. Thats not how War works. People dont wait for you to get 'ready'. You claimed Lave, you got your butts kicked. Sad story. Noone to blame but you

You really should read my post before posting.

I appreciate this is a bit of a cynical question, but what inspires you to pay real money for a cosmetic item you don't really see?

I think he means that since you guys decided to settle a home in Lave, it s quite the same as declaring a war or can easily be seen like this, since it s not an inhabited system (there are government, Factions are already established in there, if AI were more developped i would suggest that Faction NPC in this area would target french IP X)

and above all we don t have any reason to trust your pacific and peaceful intention to settle a home , which sounds quite logic to me ;)

I second the window washer but can it be a hunky guy for us ladies please. And where is the paint job for the Anaconda.:(

I was going to apply for the job - but it seems you have standards beyond my talents!

Others can see them! I've been complimented a few times.

Also, they are visible during outfitting. And when we can walk around our ships. Eventually. Maybe. We hope...

Your first mistake was thinking you can actually control anything in the ED universe. Your second mistake is you still think you can have control of something in the ED universe. You might have started it it but it is no longer yours.

Sounds like a call to arms

All hands to Battle Stations. There has been a Distress call. Lave needs defending. Kill the Invaders

Hugs n Kisses :)

Fun thing that in the End this Distress call could be considered as launched by the OP since he opened this thread x)

Im not waving any white flag. Players took our cause and our name and went straight up into a war that makes no sense. We dont surrender as we are not in a war with anyone yet.

Oh so now you are complaining that after you put your intentions online, the other side decided to bring it you instead?

I am inclined to give Athera the benefit of the doubt, as he/she also says that they had no plans to start some 'French v xxx' war at all. Of course, if it turns out I am wrong I'll bring my Cobra, 'Cockney Rebel', to the party :)

Indeed. I think we should give this "coalition" a chance to fix things before we go all American on their rears for it. Maybe they should consider this a warning and if something like this happens again then they will feel the full force of the residents of Lave.

Decals - more than just cosmetics?

So in 1.1 it looks like we are going to see a serious implementation of the decal system. What we have at the moment smacks of placeholder with just the mercenary skull decal available. In 1.1 it seems there will be different decals available depending on progress, in the form of the different Pilots Federation ranks. It seems likely at some point the game will include the ability to add Federation, Alliance or Empire decals as well, and presumably this will be linked to progress - reputation or rank.

As far as I know the decals will be purely cosmetic. I am hardly ever close enough and moving slow enough to someone else to pick out icons on their hull, and so I think they will also very rarely be seen for other players: even more so than skins, displaying decals will be largely for our own benefit and our own internal narrative. What I would love to see is real, in game effects when you mount a certain decal. Specifically, what I'm thinking of is that when you scan another player, the decals they are showing affect the results of the scan. So when you scan someone with Alliance decals you not only get their commander name, but are also shown that they are affiliated with the Alliance. This could go further: there could be specific decals which are the markings of a pirate, bounty hunter, trader etc. and so when you are scanned you are identified with that role. Of course the outward image you portray may not be true. There is a history (certainly in fiction at least) of unscrupulous naval captains flying another nation's colours in order to launch a sneak attack, and this type of subterfuge could be a tactic in Elite.

I would go further still. Every minor faction in the game should have it's own decal. These could either be randomly generated by combining simple geometric shapes, or chosen from a library of 100 or so. It doesn't matter if there is duplication between factions - the image itself is rarely seen, it's just a mechanism for displaying an affiliation with that faction. So if I fly for the Workers Party of Weeaboo to the point that I am allied with them, I gain the right to display their decal and show my affiliation. Perhaps then if people attack me, they don't only get a bounty but also lose rep with the faction. This would after all make sense in game if I am allied with that faction - if you destroy me they are going to be annoyed. The fact that there is only room for 2 or 3 decals on your hull balances this a bit - if I attack you I don't risk losing rep with a massive long list of factions you happen to have worked for, just the one or two whose colours you choose to fly.

I think there is a minor issue in the game at the moment in that we all appear as 'lone wolves', with no allegiance to any power. Some may play that way, but other players are feeling a strong identification with factions minor and major, and it would be great if they had a chance to display that, in the same way that NPCs do. At the moment, much of the narratives people are building up are internalised - it would give us all a greater sense of belonging if roles and allegiances were there for the world to see.

Fair do's. Cant argue with that really. :p

I believe we'll be saying no to a takeover thanks.

Lave Radio and the station team will be keeping a watchful eye out. Our thanks to Galnet for drawing our attention to this.

As station commander, I'll be changing the password on the command chair...:D

Hi fellow commanders.

I present myself, CMDR Athera instigator and Leader of the new Coalition of french speaking players.

Regarding the GalNet news about the invasion in Lave,

I want to dissociate myself and the members and future members of the coalition of this event. It was not my intention to start a nationalist war in the game and always been against it. Players from both sides took a post on the French forums and started a war waving their country flags. The idea behind the coalition was new and yet incomplete and not ready to take action in the game. Like i explained in previous posts, the fact that we are french has NOTHING to do with the coalition. It just makes sense to gather as a guild because we speak the same language. Sadly, players already started to fight in lave and calling themselves the coalition. Those players do not belong to our group and by their actions corrupt our initial goal. I am saddened by the fact that Frontier supported this GalNet news and by this letter turned our coalition into some kind of terrorists planning a coup to get rid of the Alliance government. They also encouraged racial or nationalist profiling by associating our language to our cause.

When the coalition will be ready to fight on the battlefield you will know about it from me and nobody else. For now we are still building the core concept of our guild and it might be subject to change. Obviously the Lave system idea will be reviewed. We are not terrorists or anarchist and nothing has been decided yet as to what direction the coalition will take.

I should have kept it out of the forums for now until the idea was complete but obviously i was wrong thinking i was facing a mature community and its a mistake i wont do again.

We are not your enemy and i hope the idea of the coalition will still be able to exist even after this regrettable incident.

Regards,

Commander Athera.

Athera, I get the feeling this thing has a life of it's own now!

I can't believe nobody has made a joke out of 'Lave' being a word in French.
Actually Lave is the french word for lava before being an infinitive form of the verb "laver" so that would explain the heat of this stupid flamewar.
From what i have read on the french speaking forums, they just wanted to base their community in Lave, those french guys didn't plan to flip the local factions, nor harass the locals, nor start a goddamn war, they just wanted to play together there because it's a good area to play. But i guess it totally deserve a Galnet article about a "coup" (how archaic of you!) in Lave because someone who used google translate think it's a war declaration. I guess it's the level of journalism we can expect from galnet, especially after the recent articles. Can i suggest another article? It's called "Lave locals start mass riots after French Restaurant open in Lave Station!". It's about how the lave local through they were going to be cooked into frogs and snails shaped meals and eaten after someone badly translated an old french cuisine book....
