News on in-system travel

I pushed for the DDA to be moved to the public forum after I'd been here for about a week... which was cheeky of me. (I succeeded too!) And I'm pro-information.

I don't share the info from the DDF, because I don't know where the line is. And not knowing I don't really want to jump over it.

Pro-moving the DDF to a read-only format. I'm actually against that.... For confusion. I'm happy the way things work... With posts being moved just after they discussion is finished to the DDA and being public.

I'm not against other people sharing that information and although me and Andrew argue a lot about slaves, I have no issue with this post and applaud his taking the time to sum up the proposal. I'm a bit... taken aback about the discussion this provoked re: DDF.

Guys I'm not in DDF exactly for this reason: too many ego's that need to voice their minds. Please take this disussion to the one place where it should be: in your beloved DDF. Where, you who have paid for it, have the right to post all your grievances AND will be heard by FD. FD Guy has asked to get back on topic about 3-4 pages ago and all you can do is ... well... not listen to him.

Can we just get back on the science of jumpdrives, High speed in system travel and such? 'Cause .... I still love that new design. It oozes freedom of choice.
It also seems to give a natural flow to traveling the universe. I also like the name they used for it. It has a good ring to it and feels real.

Apologies.

I am not in DDF - not that much disposable income right now. Still, everyone involved must admit that in the end it turned out much better idea for ED development than we previously thought, despite it's shortcomings and problems during implementation. It is hard to do it right for first time. Still, here we are, and it seems despite some misunderstandings it has done really really well.

Personally I didn't know that every proposal gets republished in OOElite forums, and I think majority of here too. Archive was right step I think, because that allowed me *not* to search for leaks. Because I knew that after discussion time proposal will be published in archive, and I will get to read it.

Yes, this proposal was so important that it was worthy of this summary. You don't see DDF members doing them every day. In fact, there was no any kind of leaks before in-system travel proposal on general forums.

Respectfully,
Peteris.

We will forget all this drama when in a few months time we're all trying to super-cruise slingshot around Jupiter and end up crashing into Ganymede :)

We cannot post threads in the DDF... not sure I see the reason for the "too many egos" comment - the DDF are just ordinary Elite fans, same as you, with your apparent need to voice your mind in this thread.

Having said that, Ashley suggested starting a new post so I'll go do that and hopefully the discussion will end here.

The focus, of course, should be the excellent proposal! :D

Deadly, But very fluffy...
Funny thing is, Space Ranger Ryan, I know you, but you don't know who I am in game

True, and i noticed you commenting some time ago about remaining anonymise in-game.

However good or bad, your reputation will point you out as someone to avoid...or not! and still make you a target for some even with anonymity ;)

It'll be easy to spot Liqua, he'll be the one with a tarpaulin over the left side of his cockpit and a parrot on his right wing ;)

Easily solved, we'll call our Sidewinders "I went to Shinrarta Dezhra and all I got is this lousy spaceship". First person to complain is Liqua :p

I think I hear the sound of something being added to a list ... again.

HAHA .. good one guys - asked for that I guess :)

At any rate ... the proposal that FD announced the other day has rekindled a fire within the bellies of many pilots on this forum and it's going to be an awesome adventure working out how to pilot the craft ... I did say sometime ago that we should sit outside space stations watching the newbies crash into them as they try to dock - now I say let's all congregate around the planets and watch as they slam-dunk themselves into the side of them as they miscalculate a sling-shot maneuver ..

Exciting times ahead!

Yeah, indeed I hope that some skill is involved with that. Otherwise it would just be setting up your navigation computer and punch in the location and the computer will execute it perfectly. I might join you for a few hours of having fun watching pilots figure it out for themselves. For instance in a system with quite a few planets/moons in a tight spot. After that I will probably get anxious and give it another try myself ... and fail misarably to your amusement :)

The physics behind the proposal really click with me. Gravity is enhanced, no inertia, mass locking. The accompanying effects also feel right: imagine a bizzy system with all kinds of POI. Multiple vessels (NPC's and players) moving in and out of supercruise leaving visible trajectories and other pilots trying to jump their way out leaving hyperdrive bubbles. Hmmm must look awesome!

Just a few months guys... just a few more months.

As it seems from the new proposal that when you finish a hyperspace jump you are in super-cruise. So.. If you can jump into the vicinity of a planet/station. Then as you drop out of hyperspace, you can then super-cruise to towards the station and as you approach the distance from the station when you are mass locked, you drop into real-space.

If you could line this up correctly it might be possible to go straight from hyperspace to super-cruise and then to docking .. provided you can line up correctly :D otherwise you might just turn into a large smear across the front of the station!

But I do like the ability to slingshot around planets and moons - potentially whilst trying to escape a pursuer who is also running in super-cruise mode. I think it is going to be exciting.. and when you've finally decided to stop running you can drop to real-space and fight.
