Direct X 11?

I know they havent said much about system requirements, but I was wondering if someone could tell me will E:D require Direct X 11 compatible video cards?

Perhaps they will ask minimal compatibility Direct X9 , but certainly not 11. They usually start with the bottom of the pyramid and not the opposite

with only a couple of month to go.
I'm also very curious for some minimal specs.
I probably not the only one who wants to build a optimal system for the Game.
time is getting a issue.

Well I took the plunge and ordered a new system over the weekend. I felt the time was right because from what I've read a lot of the custom PC manufacturers can take a month to put together a new system (even though they say 10 working days). Hoping to get my new system by November and get it up and running. That will give me time if there are any issues to get them sorted out before ED beta (will probably upgrade to Alpha in december if I'm being honest). I also wanted to avoid ordering too near to Christmas time to avoid any potential delays.

May we ask what abouts your new system will be like? And maybe even a price range on what you are planning to pay for it? TNX!

I'm trying to hold out until end of next year, hoping my system will be able to run Elite: Dangerous but knowing for sure it is not up to par for Star Citizen. With some luck I only need to change the videocard.

This is what I just bought on PC Specialist because there was an offer:

Chassis & Display Vortex Series: 17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Processor (CPU) Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-4700MQ (2.40GHz) 6MB
Memory (RAM) 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 8GB)
Graphics Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 780M - 4.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11
Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB KINGSTON HYPERX 3K SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 555MB/sR | 510MB/sW)
2nd Hard Disk 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)

I had to get a laptop because of space requirements and my wife didn't want the big set up I originally planned. Shame, because this was an expensive way of going about it.

It's run everything on Ultra so far.

Off the top of my head it's:

i5 4670k over clocked to 4.1Ghz
GTX 770 graphics card
Corsair H60 water cooling
16GB RAM
128GB SSD
2TB Hard drive

Wanted to spend about £1000 which I've been saving ever since the Kickstarter but I ended up spending just over £1100 due to adding in the SSD and getting a larger hard drive. The weird thing was that it was my wife who persuaded me to spend a bit more and get what I really wanted. I shopped around and had a good look at PC specialist, chillblast and various others before opting for Dinopc. I'll let you know how I get on with them.

That looks like a beast of a machine!

Maybe this is what they' aim to achieve through Alpha and Beta. They might have idea's now, but not certainties, and the Alpha users might just say, I'm running it fine on this, which could be below their estimate, or it might be users on a higher spec than estimated minimum might not be running the game in a playable way.

That's a bit of a monster, reckon that will last a long time!

The components used are designed for laptops so they are not as powerful as their desktop equivalents. Philip Coutts' machine above looks way more powerful.

It is pretty good though, have been saving for a while to get it.

And yes, PC Specialist did it in 14 working days which is basically 3 weeks. So any one thinking of getting a custom machine for December needs to order some time in November.

Yeh my reasoning was I wanted to get something that wouldn't need upgraded for a while. I was starting from scratch because it's years since I last bought a pc. Heck of a lot of money but I've been saving for ages and thought I'd treat myself :). I've also decided to move away from console gaming so I won't be buying any of the next gen consoles.

I've posted this before but just to repeat myself...

Alpha, and even Beta, may not give an exact representation of what spec of machine the final version will need. For example I did Age of Conan and it ran like a dog (relatively... I mean framerates sub 30 all the time) on the PC I had at the time, but the released version (with no changes to my PC) was always above 30fps and usually up to 60.

Removal of debugging code, optimisations, I don't know... but possibly just be aware that these things can change right up to the last minute.

Understood. If I had kept with my old laptop I would not have been able to participate in the Alpha at all. I had no choice really and needed a new one anyway.

Yup I was in the same position and not just for ED, I have various other games I've Kickstarted that I need a new system for, Limit Theory, Sir you are being hunted, even Godus makes my old laptop overheat to the extreme!

Didn't realise they did the M version with 4Gb.

David has hinted several times in the past that he favours the idea of the game being accessible to as many people as possible, so I would guess from that that the engine support multiple levels of DX 9/10/11 ;)

My PC is Due replacement - So I am waiting for E.D. to come out, I will try it on my current PC - check out what others say is the best to play it on - then upgrade.

This is the second time I will have purchased a PC just to play a game :)
