i'm usually not the guy that goes out and shoots other people but i decided to change my role today. bought a new ship, equipped some weapons and off i go. kill 6 pirates it says. ok, i know how to do this. fly around with 30km/s in supercruise and wait for USS's to pop up. no, don't go to the nav beacons. wanted ships do not count towards pirate kill missions. should they? probably. if they're in the same system.
first encounter: a ship updated the mission. instead of 6 pirates, i should kill 2 authority. sounds familiar. does this always happen? i think so. or it's like a 50/50 random chance it will. ok... keep flying around, wait for random uss's to pop up.
second encounter: ~4 ships. 2 authority, 2 wanted. 1 killed, the other got away. only five to go, yay. keep flying, keep waiting...
third encounter: nothing.
then i tried to go to a asteroid cluster and tried to find some pirates and speed things up a bit. nope. no pirates there but elite sidewinders that mine asteroids... ok, find that USS.
ok... third encounter: bio waste.
at this point i knew that the game wanted to troll me.
i know USS's are being reworked right now. i'm glad. this complete randomness really sucks if you're on a specific mission. i mean, life could be a little easier if you could work towards a pirate kill goal within a nav beacon. but this doesn't resolve the USS randomness. so, i came to the conclusion that i won't do any more pirate kill missions until the USS system works properly. i stick to killing random pirates and trading. much easier, much more reliant.
