See the whole idea of punishing them is so unproductive. What would be ideal (though they say is technically challenging to impossible) is just to have their ship there float unpiloted and the punishment would simply be death.

You all talk about the punishment for combat loggers....what about the punishment for pew pew killers...how many think(besides those that engage in what would be considered despicable behavior in any reality...even a created one) that the punishment for killing a fellow player should be MUCH MORE ONEROUS...

:) Oh peeps - when will all of those complaining that others have deprived you of your pew-pew simply realise that you are getting off easily? Some players disappear - it doesn't mean that they are all client-killing, and even if they were, neither you nor FD would have any way of proving that.

There are so many ways to make a pew-pew suffer, especially for instance owners. Just give it a rest, and enjoy the fights that you get - those tend to be willing participants and not n00bs you can seal-club.

I daresay that the higher percentage of pew pewer's can only club seals and not face a competent pilot in combat vessel.

The law enforcement needs to be a lot more robust, no arguments from anyone there I'd wager. That's still not a reason to cheat; that's a reason to fly Mobius at least till the cops get retrained. I doubt anyone who's looking for a just system to deal with combat loggers is against a just system to apprehend in-game miscreants as well. Justice for all, I say, in the form most suited to the crime. Right now there's not enough for either of these.

I agree, you know what else is despicable? Driving someone to bankruptcy! In any reality, even a board game created one, one person should not be able to drive another person bankrupt. They put in lots of time and effort to get those Monopoly dollars, another person shouldn't be able to just take them, even if said person owns Boardwalk!

On a less snarky note, the two things really aren't connected. One is a game exploit that Frontier has taken a firm stance against. The other is a game mechanic that needs a little tweaking. You really can't justify cheating with "the other player might beat me!"

Which they could do if only they had advertised as online only during kickstarter.
No, they can't do that either ways. It's too punishing. What if the network dies on their end and everyone disconnects from the server? Everyone loses their ship. The reimbursement nightmare!

I play open and rarely see another "CMDR" so I don't understand what the fuss is about. I suppose if the "alt-f4" allowed people to unplug, why don't they just eliminate the short cut? I agree with the imput that occasionally there will be those with lousy connections that get booted off the network, too bad for them. But, if the coincidence is tied to a fight then logging should identify this engagement and how the connection got lost, if that is possible.

I hope they fix it. I just got my ASP and am looking for a few "encounters" with pirates, NPC or real players. Makes no difference to me.

If you just got a baby Asp with no upgrades, and no insurance - and you encounter a competent player in a combat ship - then you can realistically be expected to be sent back to a stock Sidewinder in five minutes :)

But that is realistic , not every one you jump wants to fight ,perhaps their ship is not up for it so they prefer to save their lives . It is annoying that just about to finish off a ship and flash they are gone, When I fly my hauler around its the first thing I try is jump again.

Disregard the above , I miss understood the post :) So Alt f4 is a way of getting out of the game? people who do that are cowards !! lol

Whaaaa...? Pretty sure you can't personally redefine an entire game's premise because you decide to. They devs clearly said that combat logging is cheating, end of story.

Game Devs are not OS programmers. Any program that overrides an OS function is malware. Do you understand what I mean?

You're right...they are not connected. But the punishment that the pew pews would have FD inflict on the combat loggers in no way equals the pathetic bounties incurred by pirates(and I use that term loosely..more like murderers). What's fair(in game terms) about making a trader lose millions and then having to regrind all of it back including the insurance on the ship and letting the pirate(killer) just skip over to a anarchy system or outpost and pay a few hundred or thousand creds to clear their bounty. That's not just a LITTLE TWEAK to clear that up. Pirates should not be able to buy their bounties off.

If FD does not make the punishment fit the crime then all the CMDRS that play the game to trade or explore will disappear to group or solo.

That has nothing to do with what he said. They clearly said you're not allowed to kill your client to avoid having your ship destroyed in combat. That they can't enforce this rule has nothing to do with it. But good luck contesting a ban to solo mode after they've logged you escaping death twenty times by sudden disconnect.
