Orca can match it's speed. But yeah, the Clipper is a beast when it comes to speed. Great ship to fly
I'd say the Clipper is too good for a ship it's size and cost but I am frightened FD might nerf it. :/
I agree! But not sure if it's a case of the clipper needing a nerf or if it's one of the dropship /orca needing some love.
Cobra with no cargo - 444 m/s
A Clipper with A thrusters can apparently out-turn an Eagle with A thrusters (6 seconds for the full 360 vs 8 for the Eagle, according to a space-rich friend who tried it out). I'm not sure that a few hundred tonnes of passenger vessel should be more nimble than a single seat fighter... :S
My Cobra without armor does 450 but that is not most important factor. Point is Clipper can boost more often than Cobra, so its avarage speed is greater than Cobra's. I bet a 439 boost Clipper outspeeds 450 boost Cobra.
If ED had a Millenium Falcon, it'd be an Imperial Clipper. I never tire of listening to the engine.
I own both ships maxed out, it's not true. The Clipper is maneuverable but still has a heavy feel to it, especially the vertical thrusters.. The Type-9 has better vertical thrust than the clipper. As far as roll, I still feel the Clipper is too maneuverable, still I love it.. such a nice ship to fly.

Whenever I'm blasting around in my Cobra, first thing I think is the Millennium Falcon. My favorite handling small ship by far. Launching from an outpost, then going from 0 to 400+ in a few second.. an absolute blast

I've got a Cobra to boost up to 452 and a Clipper to 440, but yes, the Clipper can maintain boost for longer. However, it does not need nerfing. It's supposed to be a very high speed transport for the most valuable of cargo. When it comes to combat, the very wide weapon placement renders it virtually useless (against players).
Edit: OK, maybe the turn rate could be nerfed a bit, but this is offset to some extent by the pathetic lat/vert thrusters.

I had a cobra with 242 mass up to exactly 450, it got 315 without boost.
The cobras optimum speed/jump distance balance is (314/448) and 23.51ly at 246.3 mass Well that is what I have found/think

Well I don't know then, my clipper is kitted out in a full cargo config, I never fly it empty. I'll have to do a little test myself sometime, it definitely doesn't feel like an Eagle when I fly it!
I have bunch of Eagle's stationed around populated space near asteroid belts, they serve only one purpose, crazy stunt flying at full speed through dense asteroid fields Edit - Dr Roly's post brings up a good point, during loops and turns I am constantly applying lat or vert thrusters to assist (I always fly FA OFF) The Clipper has very poor thruster's. I bet the test was done by simply pulling back on the stick and timing it without the use of thrusters
