Newcomer / Intro Do I need to keep basic discovery scanner when upgrading scanner?

Hi there
I finally saved enough to upgrade my scanner as I want to do exploring. Do I need to keep the basic discovery scanner slotted somewhere if I am buying the 250K next scanner up?

Go to the scanner slot select your new scanner buy it and it will automatically replace the current scanner

The detailed surface scanner is a different thing, and supplements the basic, intermediate or detailed scanners. Of those last three, you only need one.

from reading posts. Thanks to all who helped. I think I need to buy back my original discovery basic scanner. But that is where I put my detailed. So I will need to work on upgrading my ship so I can have both. What would be a good starting exploration ship ?

It's a "how long is a piece of string" question.... many answers

I personally love my Adder in this role (exploration)... others prefer .....................

Hauler is actually quite awesome for exploring. If you don't mind a bit worse view out. :)
Keep your modules at D class for less weight and buy some decent FSD and you are good to go anywhere.

I have slotted back my basic discovery scanner, dropped the fuel scoop and also equipped detailed scanner. It paid off on first system I returned to. Question, if I sell what I have on a system can I return and if I find other object get credits for that ? or is it one shot deal, once you sell you can not make any more credits?

You can return and scan not previously scanned objects. I hope you soon be able to get yourself into something that can carry scanners and fuel scoop at the same time. Then nothing will stop you from leaving civilization. :)
