ship vs ship collision = not fun

just a really short story:

i was bounty hunting in a resource extraction site. i'm using an eagle. killed a few targets. collected about 50k credits of bounties. in the middle of a fight, a security vessel decided to collide with me. i instantly died with full shields.

plz change this.

Or you could, you know, learn how to fly and check your scanner. Please do not come screaming for fixes when your incompetence gets you killed, people like you are the reason the game is so deathly dull nowadays.

my incompetence? a npc ship flew right into my ship. weird thing is that he lived and i exploded instantly, although both ships were eagles.

You can either buy and use a larger ship or try to avoid security vessels. When I fly with my Viper and security hits me I barely notice it, my shields don't even get a scratch when an imperial clipper fails to evade. But still, I also think that instant death can be harsh if you had the shields up.

Have you ticketed it with the details etc, if not why not if you honestly believe the AI at fault and wrong?

i don't know if a ticket would be necessary. it wasn't a bug. just a npc that crashed into me. what i don't know is why my ship exploded and the other didn't, even though both have been eagles.

no matter what though... ships with full shields shouldn't instantly explode when they crash into each other. shields absorb kinetic projectiles but they're unable to absorb kinetic forces from another ship? sounds not right.

I ran into a smaller ship in a Type 6 by mistake one day, the other ship was destroyed and I was left with 3% health. To be perfectly honest it would have been more real to me if we were BOTH destroyed, because head on collisions, even at slow speeds can be devastating. (yes I had full class 3 shields at the time)

Also based on where my cockpit was I feel like I should have been impaled through my Canopy with a sidewinder sticking through my chest..... and the other Captain should shout at me just before we die "From hell's heart I stab at thee..."

Sounds like even with full shields the other ship had better stats, ie they had a higher class of shield for instance or power generators or shield cells etc. You might have been destroyed, but he may have scraped by with 2% hull. Plus it depends how fast he was going, a slow bump shouldn't result in any real damaged. I've bumped into ships in the docking portal and neither of us were destroyed, but just carried on.
Sounds like just bad luck, oh and bad AI flying ;)

It happens from time to time. I crashed into an asteroid twice and two times in a ship. *BOOM* Not nice but since then, didn't happen anymore. Just payed more attention. Yesterday a ship ran into me but none did explode. It depends on the speed. And it's totally cool that this happens as imagine ship with tons of mass and a lot of speed crash into each other. It has to happen. Otherwise the universe felt really strange/upid

The eagle is paperthin compared to pretty much every larger ship. I've done a few bounties now in a Viper and Cobra MKIII where I have downed the shields on an Eagle and then rammed the thing to insta destroy it without my shields even being scratched. As long as you remember to shoot it with something before it explodes, you still get the kill credit.

I honestly like this mechanic, it makes sense (though getting slammed into by an Anaconda is very painful)

I like ship bumping. I ram AI enemies all the time. I do agree though that an eagle ramming another eagle shouldn't result in any instant ship destruction. Sure if an Eagle getting rammed by an Anaconda was instantly destroyed, I wouldn't bat an eye but 2 identical ships ramming instantly kills? Nah.

It should. It depends on the speed and mass. The Eagles are light weight but if they are fast enough, the (correct) physical impact is enormous and thus it should result in the destruction of the ship(s).

In 100% of the cases a security vessel collided with me it was sideways, which makes the individual forward speeds almost irrelevant.
