A quick Google of a search term like "YouTube how to mine in elite dangerous" will turn up a bunch of stuff.

Or, there's this thread from yesterday. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=107577

Which also points to, you may want to search these boards a little for existing posts that might answer your question, or scroll through a page or three of recent posts.

Easiest way to make money if you have none is to do delivery missions. Also you could transport biowaste from any station to an agricultural world. Being a poop trader isn't glamorous work but someone has to empty all the space toilets.

With 400 credits it's fairly easy to build it up through trade, even if it's hauling biowaste for 20cr per ton like Nemesis says. Go to an Agricultural station buy some Fruit & Veg or Grain and fly to any non-Agri neighbouring system (there may even be a second starport or outpost in the same system that's of a different economy type, which saves fuel). Sell the foods at that other station, and buy Biowaste and bring back to the Agri system. Rinse & repeat. Once you make a few credits you can start buying higher value goods, so maybe Clothing, Medicines, Machinery, etc. And on foods move on to Tea or Coffee. Doing Food/Biowaste initially will also teach you the trading mechanics. Finally, routine trading builds your reputation with the local factions.

Or take missions, but try to pick the "take this" missions where they give you the goods to deliver. Avoid any that have a penalty for non-delivery. "Take this" missions are one-way jumps and need no cash payment by you. The other type of cargo mission is the "fetch that", but there you'll need to jump out and back again, know where to buy the cargo, and have the cash to buy it.

Once you get to 700crs go and buy a basic fuel scoop for 309cr. This will save money as you can start to scoop fuel from stars. You can upgrade it later. It will set you back to 400cr but by then you'll know how to build it back up again, and frankly that's the pattern in Elite of ship upgrades - make credits, buy stuff, credit balance goes down, make more credits.

Thanks! I watched some twitch videos of this game before I bought it so when I had my 1000 credits I immediately bought a fuel scoop. i'l be back on later to ask how to get the biowaste from the stations

My advice for a beginner is to focus on delivery missions and scanning planetary bodies and just taking tons of bulletin board missions until you can start upgrading your sidewinder. Once you start making some money you can start customizing your sidey and eventually get a better ship for mining.

Firstly, a Welsh or Northern English accent is a start. A funny tin hat with a lamp on it. Being short helps as does having a very effective bubble bath. Eat lots of carrots and buy a canary...
that's it, that's all my stereotype brain can muster up right now.

Im just going to wait a wee while and see if the devs spice up mining a bit. Im sure they will at some point.
