Newcomer / Intro Dont get cocky

I'm a fool. Got cocky in my conda, and fought real people at RES sites. Then lost nealy all my equity. I've still not lost my stock though, 1k cash with cargo left.

There are many players that spend all there time in Solo getting a ship like a Conda..maxing it out, then going into Open and lose it in first PVP encounter....PVP experience is invaluable :)

Always going to be someone bigger and badder then than you. Be that skill or ship.
Skill is the key here both in handling your ship and knowing WHEN and HOW to run.

I do not consider myself a good pilot, but above average. My combat rating in game is still novice, but I have given a few players a bloody nose. As I do know what I am doing just do not do much combat.
Also REALLY hate high level players picking on lower ranks, not good for ED.

Gotta make sure you got the insurance cost covered first, I don't even roll out for pvp/bounty hunting unless I've got 2-3x over my insurance premium stocked up.

I'm just a bit paranoid, so I usually keep *eight* times my rebuy cost as a *floor*. Only cash *above* that line is used for outfitting, trading, etc.

Not just you.

Costs me 10 million in insurance and I have 50 million reserve but still don't think I want to really want to break into that. Still feels too soon for me.

That's a catch-22 about the Python & Conda, really. To be able to afford one, you'll need to spend several weeks doing little more than dragging cargo from A to B. None of that hauling gives you any experience that matters in facing off with another Cmdr; being able to deliver 1,000,000 tons of rares means nothing in combat. So if you don't want to lose your billion dollar ship, be sure to spend a lot of time learning to fight effectively - because that's all many other Cmdrs DO.

+1 to a couple of replies above regarding cash reserves: My viper insurance is around 160K or so, and I have 6 Million in the bank. If I die, it takes me 1 round trip of T6 hauling to earn back an insurance claim. So... yeah. Keep in mind that people flying the smaller ships may have done a lot more combat, and losing their ship is less devastating to their overall financial situation - therefore, they're also willing to take a few more risks.

Anacondas?

A lot of people talk about buying an Anaconda as if, you know, that's just easy.

I've put in many, many hours and have a Cobra that is tricked-out in most functions, but buying an Anaconda...that's like a different financial planet. In a galaxy far, far away.

So my question is, how did you afford it? Was it after lots and lots of trading?

I'd guess by exploiting rare routes which are plastered all over the online sites (not to mention here).

It's a bit sad to me that an Anaconda can be taken down so easily. It would be good to come across another CMDR, see he has an Anaconda and be scared to engage. However, as they can be purchased very easily after exploiting rares it takes the majesty away from these big ships a little. I wish FD would make the rares a bit less powerful and randomise where they spawn, i.e. not the same systems every time. But that's just me, I know a lot of people wouldn't agree with me on that one...

Perhaps the best thing about this game is that just because the other guy has a better ship, it doesnt mean that he wins if you outfly him.

Just because some cargo jockey gets himself a conda, doesnt mean he knows how to fly it. I wouldnt be scared of him until after he has shown himself competent.

Best solution is this: when you've grinded enough for a conda, get a Viper instead. Fly stock with for an hour, taking on NPCs. Now fully kit it and go collect 250k in bounties. If you are interested in PvP, the next step would be to take your Viper and attack other pilots in Vipers, Eagles or Cobras. Keep doing this until you feel comfortable and at least on par with the majority of your opponents. Only then get the conda, and first go back to killing NPCs to learn your new ship. Grinding non stop in shieldless tradeship is no preperation for being a fighter pilot. Anyone who thinks he can figure it out as he goes deserves the inevitable lesson, freely given yet expensively paid for. :)
