Joining the Oculus club...

I'm toying around with this idea too. But I'm worried the moment I order, the consumer one will be released. Let the forum know how you get on though, it wouldn't take me an awful lot to be convinced!

I've been fighting the urge for a DK2 for a long time now hoping to wait for the CV1 or whatever is next they keep showing off. You guys make it really hard to keep holding out...

The only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is knowing as a fact as soon as I place my order and they ship it, they'll also announce the next iteration. Guaranteed.

Look at it this way. Do you have $350 bucks to blow on entertainment? If so, get it, if not, don't. This is a limited ticket, you won't use it forever, but I got a lot for my money so far.

I have heard ZERO from the dev team on the CV1, so I see it this way

Either, its the best kept secret release on the planet and they plan to release in march and i will regret buying the DK2 today..

OR

because they have not said a thing on the CVI other then "its coming" AND they are still taking DK2 orders: To me means they are still a few months away minimum from release..

But that's just my theory.. Im putting my money on mid-summer to early fall CV1 release with shipments mid-fall/early winter.. and that comes from absolutely no knowledge at all about it or the company so far! ;)

Well the game resources itself wouldn't need to be doubled, no double CPU strain. I was just trying to give an idea of what he should be looking for performance wise. I'm honestly not even sure what mine runs at compared to non-rift being I'd have to turn vsync off to be sure (got a beefy system).

My experience is around 30% reduction; between 200 (open space) to 90 fps (rings / busy stations) on single 1080p monitor, to 75fps pinned dropping to ~60fps in big rings / busy stations on the DK2. This is on a GTX760 with settings dropped (min shadows, AA off, textures medium etc.) as it improves framerate and the DK2 resolution mitigates loss of texture resolution quite well ^^;

I literally have no idea if the 30% is only me though, but you can use that as a maximum loss when trying to gauge if your current GPU can handle it.

My guess is early 2016 for CV1.. If anything gets announced this year it will be the input device they want to include with the CV1.

:):)Err, you super beings have your own sub forum for all this ya know. Where you can post to your hearts content without making the rest of us mere mortals green with envy! :p

They have hinted at a release... and it sounded like Octoberish (i forget where I saw this). But if this release is anything like any other release, we will probably see delays. I am guessing first quarter of 2016 is a safe bet.

My guess with the CV1 they are going to want to try to work out as many issues with VR sickness as they can. What they don't want is the first group to get it and say how it makes them sick and then no one else orders because of those reviews.

If you haven't had VR sickness the the rift you haven't tried hard enough (or are really lucky). I can play ED for hours without a issue, but HL2 or any FPS drives me nuts.

DK1 was a hurl fest. DK1 with RiftUp was MUCH better. DK2 is not as clear as RiftUP, but the positional makes up for that (not having to recenter every 3 mins of play). DK2 feels more locked in but if you get some wild movements with out moving your head, its hurl city.. Each step is better and better. There will still be a few that will get sick.

I wonder if a used DK2 would be worth it at the moment. They seem to go for more than a brand new one on ebay though.

What about when I'm fully immersed in the game and my dog jumps up onto my leg? Or when I miss my drink when I'm trying to grab it? :)

The dev team wants to integrate eye tracking too into the CV1 and even thinks about more features, so it pretty sure won't happen before 2016.

LOL I did that last week. Reached over for my soda, turned my head and OMG no soda just the left panel popping up. In a quick panic I pulled my goggle up and there it was, still on my desk.. Playing with a HOTAS and Rift. and they are semi synced in movement. You at times forget where you are.. Its a very neat experience. Some times I just push the buttons on the sticks to watch my in-game hands do it to.. Then I giggle.

I ordered my Rift on Jan 5 and it still hasn't arrived. The fact that my order status was "Waiting for inventory" for 3 weeks makes me wonder if they had a big run leading up to Christmas, or I'm going to get the Crescent Bay model. I hope it's the latter, but I'm not going to complain if that isn't the case.

The good news is that it landed in Australia yesterday, so I should have it today or tomorrow.

I ordered mine like on Dec 22, and got it Dec 26.

I'm reluctant to buy the DK2, only because it's value will literally hit $0 the day the release version's release date is announced.... but literally feel like a little kid on christmas eve waiting for the first release. I just... too excited... I've never even used one before.

If the CV1 hits the shelves at £500-600 the DK2 will be much sort after by all that are not willing to pay that sort of money for VR. That's my argument for buying the DK2 in December, and the fact that CV1 could still be 12 months away.

Edit: I ordered on the 6th December and it turned up in 6 days.

I've had a DK2 for a few months, DK1 before that, Elite is great in it using the x52 Pro.

It totally changes the game, the inside of your ships are huge guys, bigger than you think for sure!

I'm waiting for my Buttkicker to arrive!

Also, Samsung Gear VR but that's a bit of a different thing I guess.

Was going to mention the Buttkicker to the OP, perfect addition to the Rift, you are going to love it.

Yeah can't wait, they are just out of stock in the UK at the moment everywhere.

Also as a weird side note, we have some Oculus dudes that are Goons so everytime everyone wears one there's a bit of us in there ;)

I've also got a Leap Motion coming but no idea what to do with it regarding Elite, I bought it for messing around with mainly
