It's a tricky one, I actually think my spelling and grammar is pretty poor but in recent times with the advent of text-speak and Twitter I find my self being more concious about correct usage.

That said, I am in awe of those people who can communicate in multiple languages to any level.

I think that it also depends upon your personality, I am always trying to improve what I do and so am always critiquing myself. I do make the incorrect assumption quite frequently that others have the same drive. Take my wife for instance (insert your own 80s joke here) who rails against any such suggestions and sees it at criticism.

My point being, sometimes the 'corrector' is not always doing it to feel superior, they might just not have exhibited the constraint required to refrain from offering unwelcome assistance.

No, unless the person to correct tried to correct someone else. It might be ok in several situations, it depends on why and how you do it and how the person will take it.

When i get some writen comments, i try to never correct anyone, but when i have to respond to them i try my best not to make any mistake, sometimes using the same words that they used themselves, yet spelled properly, making no remark at all on those typos. i do make mistakes myself when i dont pay attention, though if i'm told politely that i made one, i wont take offense to it, and i might just end up never doing it again.

But damn this is frustrating when you get one troll without a single word spelled correctly, and there's many more ways to make mistakes in french, not just when writing, i've heard some people forget a feminine, a plural, or worse, misusing/mixing tenses when they're speaking. persons who are supposed to know better given their profession.

i'm writing here on chrome, since it's set for french, you can guess what the auto correction tries to do. i've got red everywhere under almost every single word.

It's been a while since my last english lesson, i dont even know how good or bad my level is, the last "reference" i have is my TOEIC score(it only focuses on reading and listening, not on talking and writing which are the hardest).
but i'd rather know when i make a mistake actually, so that i could correct it. i probably have some problem with english tenses and syntax sometimes.
my posts must be full of those mistakes, arent they?

@nicomak Your English is better then many native speakers, your grammar looks to my untrained eye to be fairly spot on.

For foreigners it is fine, no penalty. :)

Native speakers, beware the wrath of Bingo :mad:

Hungry birds I get, but Angry Birds??? Why... why are they angry?? :S

I made a few spelling errors on my website that people corrected which is appreciated in that instance....

But on a forum if its just chit chat then maybe as a joke but other than that it doesn't bother me...I really don't take much notice of members spelling as long as I can read it.

If one makes a habit of correcting others' grammar and spelling, one's own had better be damned near perfect.

That is all.

If anyone is talking about perfect spelling then I do not care who you are..
Perfect English would not ever use abbreviations as shown below

Hasn't = Has Not
Wouldn't = Would Not
Didn't = Did Not

Yet we all use them even the best of us I have noticed in this thread ;)
