I don't get paid enough for this job.

Personally, I'd rather not tell everyone to quit. That's the worst possible solution to the problem imo.

In many cases, i don't think people are being told to quit because they are having issues with the game. Been plenty of threads where people have stated they are having troubles with the game, don't understand some aspect. Are getting frustrated, thinking about uninstalling, etc. But they post constructively and ask for honest opinions and advice. And they get it.

On the other hand, you get people coming here, throwing their toys out of the pram, declaring they are going to quit... and what sort of response can be expected? Perhaps more maturity could be called for, but i think many do not have the patience to deal with such posts, and instead of refraining from posting, they say things like "Goodbye", "Don't slam the door on your way out" and "Can i have your credits". And i'm not pointing fingers here, because i'm largely talking about my own posts here.

Someone comes, explains their frustrations clearly and politely, ill respond in the same mode. Someone comes screaming and bawling, well, i'm not going to be so polite or helpful. I am British, so sarcasm does come very naturally to me, possibly snark as well. :D

I spend much of my day itching to get home and to play on Elite, but at the end of a session (which will tend to be between a half and two hours) I'll be thoroughly annoyed with the game.

I think the problem is that such a massive game with such width really clicks with most of our imaginations. It's an inspiring idea and you just want to jump into it. The reality and reward of the experience though does not match up to our expectations. Play time rapidly becomes a chore.

My game last night started off sitting watching my screen as I went out to Durius gun-sale, all 240,000ls out; I couldn't leave to go make a sarnie as there is a risk of interdiction. I then travelled for twenty minutes to meet a friend who can't afford a drive to come to me. We then spent another twenty minutes trying to get pirates to spawn so we could have some fun. When they finally did rock up, I spent five minutes battling an Anaconda just for the bounty system to bug and the reward to disappear.

I appreciate the last bit is a bug but to be honest, it wouldn't bother me if it was such a chore to get a game rolling in a evening.

I stand by my initial assessment of the game. It is an amazing simulator - it has impressive breadth and stunning details that catches the imagination but is ultimately shallow and unfulfilling as a 21 Century game. This thread, like the heaps before it is an indicator that there is, currently, a burn-out time on the game for a large number of players. I am giving the game more time that it's due because I foolishly paid for the beta and want to get a return on that, and I have several friends desperately trying to do the same thing. I suspect when one of us caves, the rest will.

Again, you can't blame people for having problems with the game. It's got a lot of problems. It's got a lot of potential too, which is why I hope it stays relevant and profitable. As things stand now, I'm not sure that will be the case long term. I am still hopeful.

I didn't tell people to quit, I said they eventually do. Or get banned. Because you don't see them anymore screaming in the forums. Just an observation

I support OP. Just because their opinion is against the grain doesnt mean it has no merit... They didnt lie.

Honestly, blowing people off in a sarcastic or smart alec manner is doesnt prove anything. It would actually be better if you didnt post all if you cant agree or come up with a legitimate argument.

You are definitely a fanboi in a big state of denial.

You use fanboi as if it is a curse. There is nothing wrong with liking a game and being sick of people making new threads to cover topics that have been beaten to death in other threads or addressing issues that are being worked out in the beta. Its like every attention prostitute in the forums is having anxiety that their wall of text will be invalidated by 1.1 so they are rushing to flood the boards with redundant threads.

I believe the reason some cmdr's complain about being bored may be because of getting it all to fast. I admit it took a lot of hours to amass those fortunes with the on going exploits but the end result is you have all the credits and there is no way to get a feeling of accomplishment anymore. I've seen cmdr's with Billions (not millions) of credits. Honestly where can you go from there. You have by all purposes completed the game. Maybe the only goal left is to get the ELITE status. But that will only be accomplished thru repetitive things you are already bored with now (fight fight fight, trade trade trade, explorer....etc). Maybe a wipe at start would have been better for the community. Just saying

The same could be said about OP post but of course that is down to a simple things: opinions

Newsflash, 1997 called.

LMAO:D

On a serious note, this was a crowdfunded game which people gave money based on promises and faith in a company

Maybe that's why people feel more compelled to post threads on their opinions rather than just stop playing and slide off stage left without a peep?

The worst part of the community are those that try to silence criticism.

Actually no they aren't, the worst part of the community are those that arrive to tell us they are leaving. For the most part they remain silent and offer no thoughts or ideas into how things could be improved or even why they think there's an issue. Their sole purpose is to make a dramatic exit and hope anyone cares, sadly because they have never been part of the community most people don't even know anything about them other than "OMG. IM. NOT. PLAYING. ANYMORE!!!. PENGUIN!!!111"

You wanna see ;)

It's gonna stop when it runs out of trolls, same way it did in the past.
New blood and the end of suspensions will create this effect now and then but eventually people will move to other games to hate, as they usually do

That might mean ED has no playerbase left, so no point in keeping the servers up..... Hence the death of the game.

I for one hope people stay, and FD act on the constructive criticism.

Well said. A forum is a place to discuss opinions and share reasonable thoughts. Give people something to read on a particular topic.

I really like Elite: Dangerous. Completely hooked. However, I can't help but agree with this post in some small way. I am finding the game fun because I like to be immersed in a realistic environment. This game does that well. I do wish there was more though. I don't get a varying sense of threat from system to system. I don't find the ships particularly exciting, including the upgrades. There isn't much depth to the game yet, but I know that more is coming. I am much more excited about the coming features of this game than how it stands currently.

Basically, I like it but can completely understand this point of view. Sorry if I am contradicting myself.

You aren't, I agree completely. For every plus point to ED, there's a negative. Personally I think the game was released 3-6 months too early, as there just isn't enough content currently. It's almost like living in a giant 15 bedroom mansion... except without any furniture.

Lot's I <3 about ED, but there's also lots I hate.

There are so many issues with this "game". I feel like FD has learnt nothing about game design since the original Elite. Ship upgrades, so bland and boring. One A5 is the same as every other A5, not to mention the infuriating code system of upgrades that makes no sense. No trade assistance software computers 1000 years in the future? really? seriously? No alien races, seriously? Can't land on planets like I could in Elite 2 or 3. Can't even chat to my friends? Newsflash, 1997 called.

It's very pretty, you've got that part nailed. I love the interactivity of docking, could be more interactive but I wont complain. But, there is basically nothing remotely fun to do, trading is boring and slow (really, my job is far more exciting and they even pay me), mining is even worse. Trade prices barely change, and only within a set amount. You have to trade/mine the same items or its not even remotely worth it. Circle combat is boring. I can't even see my ship (how boring!).

Space is dangerous. This game is meant to be hard. Hard means challenging and challenging means there are task that require skill and effort. For some, that's enough to make it fun, for most others tangible and exciting reward for successfully performing a difficult task makes the challenge worth it. This game is not challenging, it is punishing. Being obliterated by station security because you forgot to perform one part of a routine part of gameplay that is not considered part of the challenge is punishment. Punishment is not fun.

Let me repeat that. PUNISHMENT. IS. NOT. FUN. OR. GAMEPLAY.

So yeah, I backed it, I "played" it, and frankly, don't pay me to do this job, so I am off to play games instead.

Oh look, yet another thread with a dissatisfied customer speaking his honest opinion on the state of the game, his salient points met with a wave of fingers-in-ears NUH UH from the peanut gallery. Another day, another dollar.

Must agree. It is no surprise that many people are beginning to find the lack of depth in ED less than satisfactory. I really enjoy the game despite the flaws but that doesn't mean that I pretend those flaws aren't there nor does it mean that I am happy for things to stay as is.

ED has a loooong way to go before it can be called a good game. Right now it's fun to fly around and shoot stuff, anything else is just shallow, shallow, shallow.

What issues are the addressing in 1.1? Everything coming with 1.1 is largely patch note fluff. If anything, they are just making the credit grind even worse, without adding anything remotely fun to do in between. For a dev team the size of FD, it's actually pretty sad to see how slowly things are moving. I mean, another month for wings? Surely, that should shipped with the game on release?

Only if they don't care about the game at all. We've all played terrible games and simply walked away.

Fans of ED on this forum need to control their insecurities and stop getting upset when people have negative things to say. There's problems with ED, a lot of them. Lack of content, bugs, you name it. People are going to notice and that's okay.

The worst part of the community are those that try to silence criticism.

You didnt read my entire post, just the first row i take it....

Punishment for negligence is thoroughly deserved.
(flying into a station with wanted status)

Thousands of players seem to be coping perfectly well with the rules of the game.

Can't land on planets like I could in Elite 2 or 3

All credibility is lost with this statement. This is the statement of a person who has bought the game without reading ANYTHING about the development aims what so ever, right back to the 2012 kickstarter campaign.

Have you seen the extremely lengthy patch notes? Did you bother to read them, or did you just see the wall of text and assume it was just fluff. I am assuming you are on the younger side of the median age of Elite players or else you are just extremely impatient.

I like this game too, and I want to see all these things come to be available as well. I am just not up in arms about it and have the ability to be patient (within reason).
