Hi everyone,
- Fix the bug that caused Commanders' cargo holds to not be emptied when rebuying their ships through insurance
Well... the site not playing nice in different browsers isn't my problem, tbh!!
Just a question: Is your idea to balance other ways to make money compared to trading to leave the other ways alone and break trading? There are no reliable traderoutes anymore. Stations are absolutely oversupplied, but there is no demand for anything anymore anywhere. Well done. Instead of fixing the other professions, you break trading.
I completely agree here. Lets set up a little scenario here as I think there is some confusion on what exactly we're talking about here.
We have good guy (us) and bad guy (pirate). The bad guy has been doing lots of nasty things in the system and is CURRENTLY wanted by the law.
You're minding your own business and you don't see him as he approaches from behind.
He opens fire on you as bad guys like to do.
You whip around and immediately open fire on this already wanted/documented criminal before your ship has identified him as being wanted.
Now here is where the simulation breaks. If this bad guy is already wanted by the law then there is no reason you should be fined for unloading on him regardless of your own ships system saying he is wanted or not.
In that system he is already recorded as being wanted. All the security ships know already.
So what is happening? Are you reporting yourself? (no that would be dumb) Is he reporting you? (well he can't because he's wanted lol)
This is a problem and has happened to me too many times.
Ethics has nothing to do with the cold hard fact of the person being on the books wanted in that system. If someone takes the chance of shooting first before getting the result and the person isn't wanted well obviously that's on them. The point of scanning should be to ensure someone's status.... That's what scanning is for!!!! LolI completely agree, but...
well I just want to point out that I don't think that the fact that you are not allowed to shoot an "unscanned" and therefor "innocent" ship, no matter if the scan would reveal it as "wanted" anyway, lacks any logic - To me it makes perfect ethical sense, since this mechanic would prevent people from falling back to some kind of "shoot first, ask questions later"-mentality.
The only thing that bugs me is the fact that I am apparently not allowed to defend myself when being shot at - Instead I have to wait for the scan result.

The result of shooting a person should be based on their actual status regardless of scan. And I suppose that's all I have to say

"criminal intent" or "recklessness" do feature into the legality or otherwise of ones actions. If you wait for a scan to complete, you absolve yourself of both. If you don't, you're at least "reckless" or "criminally negligent" in opening fire so you get dinged.
come on, it's really not that hard to understand.
I am not sure you guys actually understand what my post was about. It was only(!) about the fact that I am not legally allowed to shoot at someone who is already shooting at me (its called RETURNING FIRE!). If I happen to return fire at the attacker without waiting for the scan result, I will get a bounty on my head (and yes, I know it depends on the system whether I get a bounty or not... for crying out loud!).... come on, it's really not that hard to understand.
But the issue is that if a ship flies behind me (it isn't scanned yet) and hits me it turns red=hostile, but it won't be listed as "wanted" lacking a ship scan. If I keep flying with the ship behind and my turrets return fire I'll become wanted. The enemy ship isn't counted as hostile unless it actually hits you. If it did then that's probablt a bug.

the enemy ship turns hostile the moment it opens fire, so the turrets start firing back.
now if your turrets hit before the hostile hits you, you get wanted.
