Well reading those zero hedge posts hasn't really made me optimistic about the longer term. Also, the issue of raising the debt-ceiling will come up again and again.

People like Marc Fabre, Peter Schiff, they talk about a collapse of faith in faith currencies. Perhaps we'll see a return to some gold standard.

The following vid is probable the most worrying I've seen so far with even worse (than the U.S.) prospects for the U.K. (seeing as it is very de-industrialised) Otoh Britains gold reserves seem very large

I think, Canadian dollar, norwegian/danish crown, swedish francs may be good long term hedges against ...

Ha. My friend's brother can beat that from a brief stay in Houston a few years back:

"Do you have electricity?"

They cant, because its impossible. If they shut down everything they still cant manage the bill. Its a endless cycle, and they have passed the event horizon a long time ago. Its either going bankrupt or crash the dollar with inflation. Or they could actually do as Greece has done. Get their debt cut or erased. Which will be the best for all. Cut it as much so they can, repay back some of their loans and start thinking different. Less wars and more love. And be a little more open about all the "black" stuff going on in US. I dont think its the government ruling over there anymore its corperations and banks. The military industrial complex which has grown fat on its own greed and now is collapsing. There is something completly wrong with the US government. They should start to investigate who really pulls strings over there. And also finally admit that they have alien tech and black projects using billions of dollars. And there are trillions dollars unaccounted for. But we need US and their economy and their strength. We need them to open up like many other countries have done. Be honest and open and they will get help as they have helped others before :) Greed and ego can take hold of the best of us. And the only sollution to it is love, understanding and forgiveness. We can all fail, but also rise again.

It still has to pass the House. Keep holding your breath. :)

I'm betting that Boehner may decide that keeping his speakership is more important than allowing this vote to even come up in the House. If that's the case we're in for some trouble, to put it mildly. We'll see.

He will keep his speakership because no one else is ready to deal with that crazy house. In GOP House meeting he got round of applause just now. I think it wasn't because deal give Reps absolutely nothing, it was because he gave middle finger to Tea Party wing.

Anyway, we got 2 months breather. Not much, but still a lot for world economy.

On a similar note I was in Burbank CA a couple of years ago having breakfast at a diner and the waitress asked me about my accent (I am from the UK) so I told her that, and she replied that I spoke very good English for a foreigner :rolleyes:

When my sister moved to the States at the tender age of 17, wayyy back in the early seventies, she experienced something similar. When asked where she was from and how long she'd been there (six months) she was told she'd learnt English very quickly.. :)

All Western countries are over-indebted by trillions of dollars. The debt ceiling in the United States exceeds 16 000 billion, France, 2,000 billion euro, like Italy, I believe, the United Kingdom, about 1.700 billion d'euros. I'm not talking about other countries. These debts are not humanly refundable and early or late there will be a explosion. And it is that public debt. We are not talking about private debt
