That's not optimistic at all. My guess Elite and it's sequels has been played a lot of people. Lot of them using illegal copies - and this actually could be FD blessing. Those people are more willing to pay for games, especially with good MP component. While SC is not released fully, they will try out ED. How many will stay we don't know, but all what matters is to give fair chance.

Hmm, if it goes to XBone, they'd need to be in their own wee world, as far as I can recall MS insist on games running on their servers, would also mean the p2p aspect of the network probably being changed. One of the reasons CCP went with PS3 for DUST514. Although, really not sure.

I think there's clear indication that FD wants to release ED for next gen consoles. First, Microsoft is regular partner for FD, and their companionship has been very fruitful so far. So XBox One is very real if ED turns out to be good. Not sure about Playstation 4 though, we'll see. It's all about money and if someone is willing to pay for port.

Not really. It was requirement for old consoles, for new ones they really don't have it anymore (it turned really problematic anyway). Also about p2p - exactly opposite, most of console networking games are done p2p.

Perhaps we don't really know ... Perhaps when ED is out, some new players will join us :)
And if some SC backers come to ED, we will have a lot of new players ;)

In any case if the game is also on XBox issued, it will be a very big market. For the record, Frontier Elite II PC in the early 90s had sold 500,000 copies in Europe alone
