Newcomer / Intro Do I have the beta?

This may be a silly question but, I bought the game from frontiers website ( I'm not a kickstarter backer) do I have the beta? Or am I on a different thing? Is there two groups of people? One that is in the beta test and one that isn't?

A box out in the launcher gives the answer

but for you.............. the Beta testing of 1.1 is open to early backers and Alpha & Beta players

should be out to us all next week (ish)

the rest of us mere mortals are playing version 1.07 at this time

Welcome CMDR

:)

Is there any major difference between the two? Besides being updated, is there any special powers used for testing? One more question, will we merge into this test or will there still be two seperate groups? If we do "merge" into the beta, will we loose all of our credits and our ships?

If you bought a beta version of the game (even if it wasn't via kickstarter) you have the beta.

Yes the groups will merge otherwise what would we be beta testing for ;)

No you won't loose progress, it's just an update, like all the other updates the game has and will have.

once tested it will be uploaded as a upgrade patch to us all

a section with details of the 1.1 patch and the updates etc in it can be found here

How do I know if I bought the beta? I think I bought it in. December. 2014. What is the version code that shows on the bottom of the launcher for the beta (1.1)?

The beta test server is only temporarily, as long as it needs to get things fixed in 1.1

After that the new 1.1 version will be applied on the live server, you will keep everything and can enjoy the new features/bug fixes etc. after you have downloaded the update for your client

Nothing will be merged o_O

the code is the launcher version

to play the beta.... those that can have to DL and install a separate Beta client :) progress in that is temp and dies at the end of the test and the test server goes offline

if you have played any of the test servers in WoT's for instance... it's the same thing

You know if you bought the beta if you bought and played before the release of the game.

I.E did you back rather than of purchase? Was what you bought called BETA?

It should be simple enough to work out. Just Google the release date and work from there! :D

Considering I downloaded the game right after I bought I would assume it was already released and I do not have the beta. Doesn't really matter because I will have I it in a weekish. Unrelated question, will landing on planets be introduced in 1.1? I can't wait to be able to go land on earth. After I rank up :(

No landing on planets yet as that is a huge expansion! But as you may have seen inhabited planets now have city lights on the that you can see from space which looks pretty cool!

Beta access was only available until sometime in November, if I recall correctly. It was closed when they went into what they called "Gamma." Originally it was for Kickstarter backers, but as the game progressed the option of purchasing Beta access was extended through the web store as well. If you purchased the game in December, then you definitely do not have access to Beta builds. It is possible that FD will make Beta access available again sometime in the future (for an additional fee probably), but for now it is reserved solely for those who supported the game prior to release.

The major element being added for 1.1 is the Wings dynamic, allowing better coordination between pilots who work together. Planetary landings and leaving your spacecraft are planned expansions, but they will require significantly more time to implement and may be paid expansions (I don't recall if there's been any official word as to that last part).

From what I understand, beta testers were given some large advantages for the purpose of the test, such as cheaper ships so that things like the Python tweaks could be easily tested. Nothing that they're doing in the beta universe will persist in the main universe after the release, though. Disclaimer: I am not a beta tester, so I don't have an inside scoop; I'm just parroting what I have heard and inferred in other discussions.

I sure hope this stays updated and doesn't go phunk like Earth & Beyond or some of those other MMO's I blew money on. Last chance here.

If you paid 60$ you dont have the Beta, that easier for you...as far as superpowers in Beta, yes...I am a GOD.
I strongly advise reading about ED, planetary landing and such are paid expansions that are very far from being implemented in game.
The DDA is a great resource for learning about ED.
