I agree with this person. I'm a proud American, and people all over the world help themselves immensely by not trying to get offended at every little thing. We are a people of offense. Rather than get offended at a comment that could be misconstrued as race/color/country sensitive, how about we accept the fact that we are not of different origin, we are all humans, and our 'offenses' are meager when put in the scope of over 7 billion people.

Being Canadian I'm also familiar with Amber Alert. However, there is such a thing as context.
In this context, a science fiction game set a thousand years in the future, especially recognizing the British roots of the game (since amber isn't commonly used here to describe something yellowy-orange, we just say yellow or orange ) there is no reason to associate this term with the one used today in North America.
Had the story been about a kidnapping, that might have been cause for confusion as to the intentions. But it's clearly a general state of warning. The fact it exists in your armed forces adds to that state of verisimilitude because it's real, for me it adds to that sci-fi feel because it's different than the usual Red/Yellow allert. Win win.
