The Glass Is Half Full Positivity Thread

Sound is indeed terrific, I can't find many space games which could come anywhere near to ED rich sound world or sound space. You can play Mass Effect and Elite Dangerous not together in one game but still side by side, last week I was playing Mass Effect, because I needed something else for a change. I was stuck in one combat scene which was hard to get through, I tried over and over again, maybe about five times, then remembered in ED you can't get stuck in this way, quitted game and started playing ED.

The game is half done. Is that positivity or negativity? Or is it just a statement of fact?

I think the game is at embryo stage (not half done), and considering how much I enjoy it at the moment that is both a statement of fact and positivity.
I suspect sarcasm in your post, though.

Yay, positivity :)

I too am thoroughly enjoying ED as it is now, and I'm excited for what will come in the future.

I'm in for the long haul and am looking forward to seeing where we are a year, two years from now. I waited over 20 years for this game so another year or two for it to realise it's true potential is not a problem for me :)

Thanks for the thread it's good to see some positivity around here!

The flight model is great.

The game world is awesome with the whole galaxy to explore, and the galaxy map looks and works great.

Super Cruise is a really cool mechanism.

I think the glass is a bit more than half full, but not by much. Some people slam this game by calling it a beta but that's not quite accurate. In a beta, there are lots of terrible bugs and stability issues. This is better than beta quality. I would say it feels like a demo. It feels like it's showcasing how it plays. It makes you feel like it's awesome (and it is) and you just have to pay the price for it and you get to explore all the content. Except you already paid the price and you have this massive fancy demo to show for it. I know it rankles some people to pick on this game but I've only been playing for a week and... I want to love it but there's just too much sameness everywhere. I love games where I can create my own role and story but there isn't enough sand in this box to do that. I have no regrets for buying it, I just hope it gets better. The lack of developer input about all the complaints is troubling because while a lot of it is too immature to even acknowledge, some of it deserves some answers.

I love that you can play for hours on end, or just for half an hour.

It's also one of the prettiest games I've played in many a year

That and never quite knowing that once you undock what may happen.
If Trading have I hauled the right stuff for the right price.
When Exploring is the next jump going to see me find something or the danger of not being able to fuel scoop myself back to safety.
Combat if being indicted should I fight or flight.
And finally Docking just how "Yippee ki-yay" can I get... never had the docking light glitch and in some ways I kinda like the idea that yikkes where has my pad gone...

Edited too add: that it is still embryonic and there is going to be stuff to come, hopefully thing I like if not Meh...

But space recovery service should so be top of the list ;)

I like how FD released a game with few but mostly working features, whereas other companies tried to bite much more than they could chew (X:R catastrophy anyone?)

It's already so engrossing. Cathartic even, and this is simply a starting point.

The sound and views are such that I am left in no doubt that I am a grain of sand.

Sometimes, it becomes trance like. I'm drifting at the moment. Enough cash for a Python, but feel no need.

I sometimes catch my wife, who professes disdain for all things gaming, looking over at my screen when I'm jumping to hyperspace. Although I see it as a loading screen, you must admit it is very appealing to watch.

I find it very relaxing to fly from point to point. It's my relax and unwind game as often as not (not being when I'm in my viper)

I'm still looking forward to a weeks-long trip to the outer reaches of the galaxy; playing since beta 1 hasn't dampened my enjoyment of the game, nor really moved my goals much.

New ships are coming, and some of them are very exciting to me!

Can I add the Jump to hyperspace... to my list:

The whole sequence from the ships voice counting down, then, whoosh and the distortion of the space around you as your ships drive begins the tearing of space and time, the sounds, that seem to surround you and come from every part of of the ship. Is it just the effect of the physics of FTL Drives, that cause that crackling of the hull and ships systems, that surround you but seem to come from every inch of ship and space, and then of course there is that nagging feeling that there may be more, then the fleeting sounds of what seem to be whispered alien voices.

You shake your head and look back into the void waiting to drop back into Frameshift and once again, being able to see planets and stars, as you think to your self they are just tall tales, spoken of by season pilots across the reaches of space in hushed tones and whispers in stations and outposts, as you meet in worn ship hanger docking bays. Too put a little fear into every rookie pilot...

"Witchspace"...

Wow... positive comments! Dare I say things will get better (especially my bit, the AI) ? Nah, that's too risky... (hey look, a dev posting! Quick, attack 'em!)

Hey, I just want them to be able to maneuver well enough that they actually get a chance to shoot back. That's all I'm askin' for.

It'd make me feel less like a playground bully.

I just love how we could buy a commodity from two different star systems 2000 light years apart and the prices are nearly the same.

I want to add my comments about the amazing sound. I love that I can hear my cargo racks clinking around back there. And don't get me started on the first time I used a docking computer! I laughed my rear off for a good few minutes. Awesome little details.

I love the scale, its our actual galaxy
I love the flight mechanics
I love the art style
I love the sound assets
I love that the game let's me tailor my play session depending on how sociable I feel.

I ADORE the oculus rift support

I love the potential. This game has the potential to be (for me) the best game of its time (just like the original)....... But I won't lie, that is gonna take a lot of time, effort and money.

Damn fine start tho. The foundations are fantastic

The thing that got me when I first played and still gets me now, is that the engine is capable of going from vast interplanetary scale to the kind of detail level other engines and games can only dream of e.g. supercruising from star to a ringed gas giant and doing a low/slow fly past of the rings, whilst watching the individual rocks/ice chunks resolve into being. If FDev can crack that, then they can crack planetary landing, clouds and all the other eye candy I could ever wish for and I can't wait to see it - it will be game changing in the industry.

10 reasons why I LOVE Elite : Dangerous :

1) This is the only game I played in MONTHS
2) This has the potential to be the only game I'll ever play
3) The flight model is AWESOME
4) The sandbox is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE
5) It brings fonded youth memories
6) It gave space EXPLORATION a big place, which is very rare in video games
7) It is a EURO game ! Don't get me wrong, I love games from all the world, but this still makes me proud
8) It is an ENGLISH game. To me, it is always good (and I'm not even English)
9) It is close from BOOKS, STORIES and hardcore SciFi : litterature and video games are going along nicely. Try the audio books while trading guys !
10) It is *smaller* than Star Citizen. I'll play SC and I deeply respect what C.R. is doing but to me, Elite will always be the 'hardcore' game I'll prefer. And that's because it is more "focused" on the important stuff.

OK, that's ten. I could make a list of all the things I *hate* about Elite:Dangerous, but this would be for another thread, so here you go :)
