Newcomer / Intro Finding the entry port...

So... stupid question. I have always had a heck of a time finding the entry port to get into the landing dock on the big Coriolis stations. What makes it even stupider on my part is when you lock onto the station there are arrows that point you to the slot - but between the station moving and the ship moving it just seems harder than it should be. I'm probably - or definitely - overthinking this.

Does anyone have tips on quickly finding the entry port, short of strafing around the station?

Also, if you have trouble imagining it in space, target the station. On a target hologram it has arrows, pointing towards the entrance. :)

No question is stupid and almost everyone had a hard time figuring this one out. Seems you have enough answers. Explore on CMDR!

There are also other tells if you look next time you are close to one, such as, on the corners there are red flashing lights for the closed side and gWHITE(derp) for the other, I just know the red side is no go for sure...

Also, the BACK of the station has flashing RED lights at the four corners of the wall panel. The FRONT of the station has flashing WHITE lights at the four corners.

The entrance points in the general direction of the planet the station orbits. If you fly towards the planet for a while and flip 180 back towards the station you should see the entrance.

This was true in the original Elite too,if i remember correctly.

I tend to look for the trails from other ship jetting away. There always seems to be a group of NPCs that have gone straight out from the entrance, then they turn and jet off on different directions. You can see them from anywhere round the station. A mix of that, the arrows and coming in planet side gets me in fairly quickly.

For fast assessment, take your right hand, make a thumps-up gesture, your fingers pointing in the direction of the rotation. Thumb = docking port.

Easy:
Look for celestial body, point your nose that way, it is on that side.

If you see battles... that side.

Better:
Usually best to approach from the planet. Dropping out of supercruise you will see the front door.
