because traders were making more money than bounty hunters in vipers.
*Sigh* I sincerely hope that reply was sarcasm.
Traders
should make more money than bounty hunters in Vipers!!
After all, your flying a brick with a bullseye on your back performing menial milk runs with a large chunk of youre investment at stake in your hold..
The increased returns should compensate for the tedium. Hauling freight just isnt a great deal of fun, it never will be.. (ironically, i enjoyed finding routes quite a lot, just not hauling on them)
Micromanaging my time by doing what needs to be done depending on my current financial situation in the game vs my bloodlusts desire for entertainment is part of what makes the game varied and challenging.
OK, lets assume for one minute that the segment of the community that want perfect income balance between all of Elites career paths gets their way. Imagine how the galaxy will look.
Trading is, unfortunately Boring for the majority of players, its akin to grinding to many and is considered a neccesary evil.
If you can make the same Cr/Hour killing at a nav point in a Viper as someone hauling goods in a type 7, bounty hunters will likely outnumber traders perhaps 10-1.
Combine this with the fact that forum habbits suggest a higher percentage of traders play solo, rather than open compared with other careers due to the risks involved.
There will then be very few traders in open play, this will just about kill player piracy overnight if theres no one to pirate.
The Open galaxy will be largely populated by Bounty hunters in eagles to asps, This will be the limit of our multiplayer experience as all the explorers will be spread out in the void beyond contact anyway.
Perhaps i am being a little melodramatic and making a few assumptions, But from experience, games that try to equalise material gains from everything too much usually leads to the masses going down the most risk free path for their aquasition of whatever resources offered. This leads too too many people playing the same playstyle, stagnates the community, and sucks yet more variety out of the play experience.
I agree that there needs to be a lot of tweaking of the careers in ED,
but this obsession by some members with equalising gains across all of them needs to stop! I was a GM and CM of a twitch based online game for years! and saw it get destroyed by its developers trying to attain the balance that their "maths on paper" suggested was good for the game. Balancing is all about compromise, not making everything the same.
whare trading should be the biggest money maker, it shouldnt offer much else on the reward/goals side of things, whare careers that offer less money should get you other rewards that you couldnt obtain through trading, this would also promote players to switch careers as they find they need to persue these non-monetary goals.
Oh.. And before i forget... a lot of my usual haunts have changed names.. This will give me a headache for a few days...
