Nah... you're missing the fluffy dice that needs to hang from your monitor :D

Lol no ssd there still too expensive per gb. This is my cg rendering rig too hence the 24gb mem. Motherboard is gigabyte x58-ud5.

With 24gb ram, I think he got a good mother board :D
Yes SSD is mandatory with this specs :)

I got my new rig and I can heartily recommend a SSD drive, they are super quick when starting up.

Good specs.

Next stretch goals - SSD and 2560x display. :)

I still can't get over what a difference the SSD makes to startup/shutdown.

Only had it a couple of months - but what a difference to my laptop which doesn't have one (and it's a decent spec laptop too).

I wouldn't have a computer now without an SSD for the OS/Main apps drive. Single best upgrade (and now standard feature for me) I ever made.

That's one powerful computer you've got there Michael. You shouldn't have any problems.

With that kind of horse power you might be able to get 5 to maybe 6 polygons drawn for a ship and more than 2 colours !!! Maestro cue the Blue Danube music please!!!!

They are less than $1 per GB now so it is getting better... $189 for a 256gb drive... even if that is just a boot drive that is more than capable...

I'm thinking an SSD could represent a really big performance increase for older machines and considering it myself so I can avoid upgrading the mobo and cpu. Presumably its got to help with pagefile access and improve overall performance massively.

Has anyone had experience of replacing a traditional hard drive with an SSD for these purposes?
