Newcomer / Intro Starter Systems

Didn't really pay attention when I first entered the game, but after seeing a few Youtube videos of people starting the game I have a question about starter systems.

When I first started, it dumped me in Fed space in LHS 3447 like a lot of others. When you first start, do you get an option to start in Alliance or Imperial? And if so, what systems do you start in?

One of the reasons I ask, is that I am interested in exploring those areas, but want to head to the start areas for the other factions so I can get an idea about how they feel.

I think that LHS 3447 seems to be the only one since proper release (or at the vast majority). AFAIK there has never been any option about where you start and that it was always in Fed Space.

'Starter System' is also a bit of a misnomer that carries baggage with it. It is just a system like any other. But yes, Dommarraa has it right.

I did a quick trip to Cemiess and was in Awe at the difference of the looks inside the Stations there. MUCH different than the fed stations I have been in.

Can't really help you there. I've never 'done' any of the popular systems, I headed out into the big black as soon as I could. I'm currently on the other side of Empire space. The problem with popular systems is that they are popular with everyone, including pirates and faecal matter orifices. There are just as good trading opportunities all over the place.
