Imperial Clipper .... lovely ship but i'm going back to Asp

The advantage of having a Clipper (compared to an Asp) is being able to combine bounty hunting with some large(r) volume trading.
But it is a very expensive ship to run, and when you scratch it... wow... Repair bills are high. But you can make a good profit when trading and kill a few pirates on your route to pay for the fuel.

I did love the Asp too and at some point I will return to it for sure.

Asp is a great ship. Has anyone noticed if you add a paint scheme, it doesn't show up when you look at the ship from the inside (trackIR/Oculus) Was hoping they would fix that in 1.1

Class 3 beams insta-kill small pirates. They are lovely. And hunting is fast.
I still guess the Python is a better ship, btw, even if I still didn't try one. Because it can land at outposts, better cargo, third cl.3 hardpoint.

I find it a bit ridiculous that the ship carries no more fuel than a Cobra, which is a fraction of its size and holds a frameshift drive that only sips at a 16T tank. The mass of the clipper and the demands of its FSD means it's going to be necking the fuel like it's at an open bar. What sort of VIP transport ship has to stop at every other star to refuel? If I was some high ranking imperial senator or whatever I'd be constantly pestering the pilot as to what the bloody hold-up is. The limited jump range I'm fine with, it's not meant for exploration, but it is meant to get from A to B quickly and safely, something which is undermined completely by a dependence on regular fuel scooping or a hefty fuel bill. Needs a 32T tank at least.

Maybe you will be missing those class 3 weapons btw. Or maybe not. I don't know.
The thing I dislike most in the Clipper is the flight model inside the docking bay. No way to easy park it like the T7. If you pitch down heading for the closest large pad (the ones near the entrance) it just starts spinning downwards, and it's ugly. It needs slow vertical thrusters movements. The T7 (or Asp) was way more agile in the bay.
It's a mule to park until you upgrade the thrusters.

I don't have an issue scooping .... i scoop about 80% of the time with my Asp
I just normally don't HAVE to scoop until i'm nearly at my destination....

I guess its just this ship in no way suits my play style as much as i want to fly it...
I go from sector to sector doing a wide-range of roles .... i like to just play on a whim and fly 200Ly to another thing to see

Having to scoop at every stop and then taking an extra 5 or 6 jumps to get there makes travelling slower ---- or it feels slower even if its not

Absolutely just 1 persons opinion .... just disappointed

I personally have had a clipper for a month now, I flew to almost every corner of the populated Galaxy with it, and I have not found the small fuel tank to be that big a deal. Yes, you have to scoop for any major trip, but that's not that big a deal given how little time you actually do spend scooping, even when running rares.

You are clever. It would never occur to me to waste a class.
me neither, which is why I asked why someone would do that.

After killing my 1st NPC Pirate with them I have to agree. I was astounded at how quickly they took down his cobra. I didnt even need to open up with the multi's. The thing just melted and exploded. After what seemed to me at the time a very short burst. But I'd been used to combat in a viper till then.

The asp is a wonderful ship - I've flown almost every ship in this game save the dropship and the one I keep coming back to is the Asp. The only thing it doesn't excel at is bulk trading, and I have a Type 9 for that.

That remark really surprises me Coccolino, because my best, smoothest landings are in the Clipper. I feel like a pro every time I put that ship down. The ship handles quite well. The only thing you have to take into account is that it tends to slide a bit when turning at high speeds. Hunting for pirates in dense asteroid fields is therefore a stupid idea with this ship. I know, because I did that myself and had to pay a repair bill worth 2 Vipers :).

I use a Saitek X55 HOTAS. Perhaps that makes a difference?

Maybe they couldn't find a class-6 scoop for sale.
