Newcomer / Intro Pirates and no cargo holds

So, I started exploring in a Hauler following CMDR Nutter outfitting guide and I've been intercepted by a few pirates.
As usual they asks me to drop my cargo if I want to live. However since I have no cargo hold, I have no cargo to drop. So they attack me. Is there a way to have that not happening (pressing the jettison all cargo key) or is this an oversight ?

Some pirates are a bit more canny, they will scan you first to see if you have any cargo, if you don't they fly off and leave you alone. Unfortunately there are low level pirates who don't have scanners and they just attack you, no way to avoid it other than running away as fast as you can after the interdiction.

NPC or live

Do you know if these pirates are NPCs or live players. I do carry cargo and have been attack. I have never been asked to drop my cargo they just shoot to kill. Not sure if they are NPC or live.

Some of those pirates are a bit tight on the money and also a bit daft.

Since they cannot equip expensive scanners, they rely on "Mark I Eyeball". They see a Hauler and think: "Freighter class vessel... must have some freight, then..."

Irrefutable logic :D

If they have CMDR in front of their name, they they're a real player, otherwise NPC.
Also, if you look on the radar the solid squares/triangles are NPC, hollow ones are players.
