Community goal completely out of reach

It appears that this cursor actually shows our progress since I have seen it going up since last night:

So in 22 hours we have achieved between 1/80th and 1/100th of the goal, something between 100 and 130 million tonnes total. Which means that at best it would take us 80 days to complete it.

Unless we don't need to hit the highest Tier to see that station (Global Rewards says success) there is no way that we can achieve this in 1 week, all we are going to hit is Tier 3 at best.

Can we have some clarification on what the 8 Tier actually mean? Do we need them all? Is the first Tier enough and anything more is just icing on the cake?

those tiers are for your overall input compared to everyone elses.
For example, if you were in the top tier then you would be within the top 5% or so of "contributions made" which will affect your reward.

I believe the tiers are not for individuals, but the entire community goal. The individual rewards increase at each tier.

Getting the first tier is already a "Success". In the beta goals, getting higher tiers only increased the rewards and if you reached the final tier the objective was ended (even if there was still time left). This goal was probably set so high to ensure that everyone would have a chance to take part. But we won't really know until we hit the next tier if this community goal is any different. I estimate it will happen at 2 million tonnes...

This isn't true. I've put in 47t in and I see the same HUD indication. OP has done 16,512t and has the same progress bar. That thing is global. Tier 2 is the second stage of construction and we're nearly there.

I wish they had stuck to 'Tons' and not god awful 'Tonnes'.

A tonne is a metric tonne, 1000kg, while a ton is an imperial ton, which is 2,240 lbs (1,016 kg) in Britain but 2,000 lbs (907 kg) in America.

I didn't know there was two versions of an imperial ton until I looked it up.

A tonne is definitely the most rational version of a tonne.

Maybe the imperial systems in game should use the old British Imperial system just to complicate things for the fun of it?

Clearly never seen how grinding rep works in Star Trek Online.. Think yourself lucky

Im also confused.. Why do you think it should take a week thats not how Im reading it

That's what I feared (honestly they should have made this even more obscur, it's hard to tell what is personal and comunity based). That's just insane, what they want us to achieve in 1 week would actually take 10.

It specifically tells the time left (6 days now).

And sorry to whoever just PMed, just got interdicted by a NPC and had no clue who to reply to!

Reward Tier should be made like kickstarter ones where you at least see what the next tier reward is and how much is needed to reach it.
It would help keep people motivated.

In the US it's metric ton or just ton if its understood that one is using metric measurements. Tonne is a strictly British term, but the game is British so it shouldn't be surprising that they use that spelling.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how all this tiered reward goals and such equates to building a space station. Specifically why there's a time limit. Surely the station can only be built when all the requisite materials are gathered, what happens if the time runs out and nobody bothered gathering the necessary parts? Does the universe just handwave the rest and build the station without rewarding anyone?
Furthermore it seems strange for a faction to commission a new starport and then require donations to see it built, surely they'd be paying the cost of materials or they wouldn't undertake such a venture to begin with. Do you get paid when you drop stuff off? Or is it a return on investment sort of thing?
There's a lot about community goals that just up and doesn't make sense, for something that could make sense fairly easily. I haven't bothered making the trek to Yembo so I don't know the specifics of how this all is meant to work, but if anyone who's doing it has a clue I'd be interested to hear it.

I think that's 6 days for this tier? I guess we'll probably find out tonight, as I guess tier 1 will be complete tonight.

I thought so too.
My thought was, that we all have 6 days to complete this tier and with each completed tier there will be another quest. Like the first Quest is to gather metals, the second will be to gather food and tools for the workers and so on.
So you have 8 weeks with an other quest every week which only starts if the previous quest is completed.

I think, it doesn't work like this.

The tiers determine the amount of "global rewards", which is granted in addition to your personal reward. The more commanders participate in the event (= the more material is gathered in this case), the higher this global award will be. The "global reward" isn't neceserrily plain money, but migth be a percentual reduction for buying equipment or commodities.
The "personal reward" is based on your personal contribution and it's relation to the other pilot's contribution (measured in %). This payout is not directly related to the global tiers.

The limited time is needed to reward commanders in a reasonable time-frame. A payout possibly one month after your contribution would be a bit late, wouldn't it? You could be already far, far away from the event's location and miss out whatever the global reward (remember: more often than not NO plain money payout!) might be.

You do your trade work the same way you would do normally (except that after 24 hours and a thousand commanders passing by there is nothing worth to export anymore so you can forget a round trip). You bring metals —the resource that is required at the moment— and you sell your goods to the station which counts toward the goal.

Okay, so you just trade in the desired resources as normal, rather than delivering them to a bulletin board jobbie, I see. That makes a bit more sense.
