Anger, but not by your definition. I'm angry that they're caving to the PvPers who whine when they don't get their giggles from enough kills. I'm angry that they castrated the sound (by most accounts...I haven't dared log in because I don't want to lose my current progress because of a bunch of bugs present in a half-baked patch which never should have passed QA). I'm angry that they've gotten it to the point where I can no longer defend their rationale of releasing things, because they're being over-reactionary and they're overbalancing in the opposite direction. I'm angry because they're being idiots and not thinking things through. I'm angry because they're breaking elements of a game which were previously working just fine, rather than fixing ones which actually needed far more desperate attention. I'm angry because they're shooting themselves in the foot and actively working towards losing player base size. I'm angry that they have it in such a state where the threads on the forums and other personal anecdotes floating around the Mobius FB group make me scared to log in for fear of losing my progress. I'm angry that I can't even risk it reasonably because they don't even -answer- support tickets for months on end, to hear the majority relate their experiences with "support".

I'm quite angry about a lot, here.

I'm not up to bargaining, nor am I a bargaining sort of personality. People do their jobs correctly, or no mercy is shown.

I'm depressed as well as angry, but that's an augmentation, not the stage I've moved on to.

I will never be accepting of the shortfalls while there's hope that they pull their heads out, listen to actual reasoned requests instead of the plaintive whines of the PvP crowd (who seem to mostly be EVE refugees looking to ruin yet another game, and you would -think- would be in the minority, compared to the hardcore Elite fans of old).

They seriously need to roll back 1.1 to 1.0.7, rethink things, and take a measured approach forward again after some reflection and planning. If they keep progressing in a reactionary fashion, as opposed to ignoring a general vision for the game which they hold internally, this game is doomed, as would any software product be.

And I'm even willing to wait for the 1000LY route planner in order to give them the time to get their heads on straight.

Yo, a word to the wise here for you OP.
If you feel like any of the options in that poll about a video game then it's time to have a look in the mirror.
These are childrens toys, diversions, silly hobbies we are discussing here, not actual issues lol.

Goddamn it guys sort yourselves out.

Hi!

Thank you for posting a thread on the frontier forum. We realise you have a choice of forums to post in and we appreciate your post.

Your constructive criticism will be handled by one of our ever patient operators, please hold :)

Thank you for your well-thought out critical post. Please hold while we redirect it to /dev/null ;-)

I'm pretty good! ^_^ Ship no longer explodes from panic attacks, got it outfitted with a better power generator to keep my quad beam lasers from cooking her, and been doing some pretty peaceful trade runs out in the middle of nowhere space while listening to some Youtube videos. Still, thinking of outfitting a cheap ship- an Adder, maybe- and moseying over to more populated space to do some socializing. Not much point bringing the Anaconda, the fuel costs are massive, jump range is 'eh,' and I'm not looking for a fight... maybe someone'll pirate me even though I have no cargo and we can engage in a terse standoff! ...or they'll just blow me up for giggles, but the rebuy cost is pocket change, so either way unconcerned.

That being said, I've learned the valuable lesson of 'Never, Ever Take Your Expensive Ship Out Right After A Major Patch Without First Checking The Forums Twelve Hours In To Make Sure The Coast Is Clear,' so it was an educational experience as well.

"The Stages of Grief"

Lol. Fair play OP. You've got to admire the soaring emotional content of that thread title!
Not to mention the (intended?) word play on 'grief'. Genius. You should work in news media. You may do already!

Stage 6: Like Pharrell :)

According to scholars of psychology their are 5 stages of grief. Interestingly/sadly enough this can be directly applied to the ED player base as manifested on this forum.

  1. Denial - The blind defenders or whatever your personal label for this behaviour is
  2. Anger - The over the top emotional posters screaming "W.T.F.?", demanding change, talking about legal action and refunds, etc
  3. Bargaining - Those offering balanced criticism + proposing solutions (well include lots of sentiments of the form "I know that <subject>, but..."
  4. Depression - Those posting sad themed good bye messages ("I don't feel like logging in anymore..." for example)
  5. Acceptance - Those that have given up, made their peace with wasted money, and either moved on or just plodding on till something better comes along

Being honest I can easily track my own progress through this process and as of now I think I just moved from stage 3 to 4.

Care to comment Frontier? Of course not...

Evening all

What a crock of rude words that will get me into trouble if I post.

This is a computer game, you spend your money you take your chances, if you dont like the game, well could be like that movie you saw 3 weeks ago and did'nt like

Those stages occur when you get real actual news happening to you personally, like say you dont feel well 3 days in a row, and goto your doctors
He sends you up the hospital and they say "we'll run some tests next week and see whats what, sounds minor though",
You have the tests and the doc comes in later and says
"I'm sorry , but you have an extremely faulty heart, we'll get you into surgery ASAP, but you'll remain as an in-patient until we do, you'll have about 4-8 weeks left to live unless we do the surgery, which means you may die before we can do it, also the surgery has a chance it will kill you anyway, but we need to run more tests to see how big that chance is"

At that point, you run through those stages of grief.

Bill

PS I got to number 2 .. and have been there ever since getting out of hospital

None of the above, but that's primarily because I'm patient, and understand that game development takes time, and for 2 years of work, what the team put together is fantastic. Don't assume that just because a small vocal part of the community isn't happy with the game we all aren't. You know what they say about assuming. It's only been out a couple months, Vanilla blues is a thing, and it'll pass in time. I'll see you in a few months when a major content release hits, then you'll burn yourself out again, post another thread about how Elite is dying and how no one likes it anymore, then you'll be back for DLC.

I enjoy the game on a regular basis, and plan to continue enjoying the game. With or without you, although, I get the feeling that one is going to be better than the other.

Cheers Bill for putting this in perspective. Yep the drama around here is staggering. ED is something you have the option of using to escape the real grief, pain and frustrations of life, much like the ones Bill has faced but also just everyday .
If your angry or sad about ED then that's on you. Open your expectations and widen your parameters of what could happen. Disappointment comes from within.
Lastly, if you have are getting angry about the update and haven't even tried it yet then maybe you need to find what is actually making you angry coz it ain't ED.

The stages of grief (In gaming terms)

1) Play a game
2) Enjoy it and carry on
3) If number 2 is not true stop playing and do something else

You seem to have left out a few:

Happiness that I can after many many years see elite re-envisioned to suit the current tech
Exuberance that David is once again working in this field of programming
Joy at having a system that can run it without problems
Elation in knowing more is to come that can only make the game better

The only negative emotion I have is disappointment that I didn't hear about the kick start until it was officially released.

P.S. Sometimes the glass is half full!
