Mining - any love?

I see very little love for mining around here and I've been tossing around the idea of trying it out. Anyone out there making their fortune seven dwarves style?

Nope.. no orrery, no mining.. no trading interface improvements... although exploration got a little love.. and I do say little.. which is at least something.

No. Any place you find that has high amounts of good ore will be swamped with pirates and/or the distance to the nearest star port that buys the ore at a good price is way too far

well, mining is fun, but for me only the first 5 minutes of it ^^ Afterwards I fastly understood that it's the worst part to make money with ^^

Yes, I really enjoy Mining, I find it fun and very relaxing to do. Currently all my money is made from Mining, I'm not super rich but I'm doing just fine with a nice Cobra MkIII and almost 3m worth of upgrades installed. Its my main ship and money making ship but I also have a Hauler and an Asp which were bought from profits mining. :)

Good timing. I am about to head out with a 10 slots refinery and an A-class python with 160 cargo.
My plan is to mine all the high percentage roids, not just gold and upwards, and see how much I can make.
Mining can be very relaxing from time to time in its current state, but I can't wait for it to get some love from the devs.

Actually, on the subject of mining lasers, I've noticed it isn't a crime if an NPC shoots you with one, even though they do cause a small amount of damage. I was mucking about to see if an NPC miner would get a wanted tag if I flew in front of him, and he just kept mining and draining my shields with a clean record. I was doing this before the new friendly fire rules came into effect, also. Makes me wonder if players get bounties for damage caused via mining laser. Anyone want to test? I don't :V

No.. Mining really needs some work.. Its just too dull or to much pain or pestering from NPCs.. They could start by automating the pick up the metal/ore part - its just seems to be a unneeded time sink added to a dull experience in the first place.

Hopefully mining wil get some love - it has potential

no, No, NO!

If you find Mining boring then I'm sure you can find many other things to do in-game that will be fun and make you credits. Mining is fine, sure its not as profitable as say trading but I can make a decent living with it. Approx 290-350,000cr per hour. which is fine for my needs.

Dont ask for mining fragment collection to be dumbed down just because you are too lazy to do it. go trade or bounty hunt or whatever. :)

I do enjoy mining, more than the dull back and forth of trading, but it's too hit and miss. Some days every rock is 20/30/60% Pt, you fill your cargo day in an hour and make 500K+; it's what you expect from a Pristine metallic. Then you get days where you spend hours picking at every rock and your cargo bay is still only 1/4 full because there's nothing but minerals. To make mining competitive with trading they need to expedite the gathering of fragments, so that the less lucrative minerals are worth getting on a per hour basis compared with trading, to make it worth filling a large hold with less than precious metals. For that they do need to improve fragment collection, probably with mining drones.

Mining is likely the most mind-numbingly painful aspect of Elite.

Unless you're an 'explorer' and you detail scan everything. ....YAWN!

Specialized mining cargo bay with tractor beam attached?

I enjoy mining a lot. I keep a ship equipped for it and occasionally pop over and scoop up some yummy valuables. Why not!!! It's a good thing to do when listening to music or watching a movie.

Of course you'll have some mind-numbingly boring people insist it's mind-numbingly boring to them, but if it floats your boat, do it!

Yeah, just like EVE - a mindless click-and-snooze-fest. No thanks.

You can still mine the fragments manually all you want, they can add drones for the rest of us that dont like scooping up the small rocks.

I've tried mining, but I only had a 4 slot refinery. I found it rather dull and boring, but then some would say the same about trading (which I love). I guess it's all in what you like.

I do think automating collection of resources is a bad idea, even though it would have made it more fun for me. But it's not just about me. It's about what's best for the game. I do agree mining needs some work, but they can't do everything at once. Dang it!!!:D

Perhaps if they made other perts of mining more interesting - because scooping is not.

Eg. The fragments in an asteroid need to be hit precisely. Or, you need to cut the fragments out by manually cutting around it. Make it too big, and you get too much rock, less ore. Too tight, and you lose some ore, and get small chunks with value...

Z...

Its not dumbed down, its numbed down. As in less mind numbing. Maybe you enjoy being poor and picking up rocks, thats great, but mining over all is awful. I'm sure if they improve mining you can figure out a way to stay poor.
