Newcomer / Intro 1,223c...

I've broken 1000 before, but don't think I ever got quite that fast.
I read somewhere that the max SC speed is 2001c.

I have had a silly curiosity related to supercruising my way between stars systems... as opposed to jumping.
Wonder how long that would take?

Anyone happen to know the math conversion factor for "c" to LY? ...and what does "c" represent anyway?

"c" represents the speed of light in a vacuum. The LY is how far light travels in an year (in a vacuum).

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

Great... I see that I should restate my question.
It must be speed of light in a vacuum, and have some time element associated with it?

So at 2001c how long would it take to traverse a 10LY distance?

Thanks for "c" description though...

Too long, is the answer, at least in game terms. Someone tried to get to a nearby star system in SC. Took 9 hours and still wasn't successful. ;)

10LY at 2001 times the speed of light would be 0.005 years - or about 43.81 hours - wouldn't work in game though, it's been tried quite a few times on shorter routes and you end up in the same instance you started - the destination won't exist in your instance.

at 1c it takes 1 year to travel 1Ly - so 10 years to travel 10Ly. So - 10/2001 years at 2001c. 1 year is 365.25*24 hours (8766) - so 10 y is 87660. Divide by 2000 and you get the afore mentioned 43.81 hours

I traveled 2.5 million LS between two systems (no, it doesn't update the instance, so you can't SC between systems). I've been at speeds of over 1500, and i'm sure it goes higher.

Glad I'm not the only one who was curious...
I will disregard the comment and happily pretend it would be possible without trying to prove it then.

I'm happy they've at least allowed for travel within the same system... IE, coming out of SuperCruise at any distance beyond the "safe drop-out" distance, and you can still put to it at standard-cruising speed :)

It'd be nice to have deep space discoveries (hours to days of max-super-cruise from a system's / instance's star), but I'm glad they're not that cruel to force us to explore in that magnetude :).
