Newcomer / Intro Is this a bug or some sort of silly joke?

For the second time I've approaced a signel source where it's been a ship that's asked me to drop my mission (this time is was to pick up then drop off some food cartridges) I was asked to abandon any missions involving food cartridges and not ask why, so I did (again) then nothing. No quest update just nothing. I really hope it's a bug and not some intergalactic prankster floating around in space on the off chance someone will stop by with a food cartridge mission. If I had finished the mission I would have had a healthy 6k, now I'm at a station with sod all.

Has anyone else encounted this?

Usually they offer a pittance for you to abandon the mission and meet them somewhere else, it's not worth it in virtually every case.

It's a branching mission.

Interesting idea but you don't have to take it - you can continue with the original plan - check amounts offered and rep affected for both options and make up your mind that way.

If you go to the Transaction tab (I think) it should have the Abandon mission alternative with more details about how much he's offering as a reward to abandon and the details of where to meet him for further update. If yours didn't maybe he wasn't offering an instant reward for the abandonment of the mission.

Like others have said though, it's normally more hassle than it's worth and best to stick to the original mission.

The abandon target is in the objective list, just do whatever it says. Do not actually select and abandon the mission in the menu, that cancels BOTH options.

You do not have to abandon the mission, it is an alternative goal

This is wrong.

If you have met someone in space and it updates your mission in the Transaction tab, asking you to abandon it for some other cause, then upon agreeing to Abandon, it will update your objective, telling you where to go or what to do next. It does not abandon both the new objective and the original mission. To do this, you would have to select Abandon twice. Tried it last night.

It said I would get 1,000cr for abandoning my currrent objective but didn't say what to do if I'd abandoned it. I went ahead and abandoned it, it then updated my objective and tole me to go so and so system to meet someone.

You're right, it doesn't give you the option to not accept the request to abandon and therefore clear it that request from the Transaction tab. You simply to have to ignore it at the moment.

If you want to continue doing the original mission, simply ignore the request to abandon and the objective will be updated and rewarded upon completion as normal.
