Installation is a bit bumpy. I know two others who have installed the game - which worked perfectly for them also. The update this week was fast for me but caused issues for a friend who had to reinstall, twice.
Failure to login caused an odd error message; hopefully this is fixed.
The tutorials are excellent (both video in intro-tutorial)
Game sound is very good. I usually turn off the music in most games after five minutes but ED is different.
Of course the images and presentation are 90% of the game experience. I was not disappointed.
The open universe model is wonderful. It is peaceful, even.
I marveled at the spaceports - which made a great impression.
A HUGE ship passing through the spaceport made me pause and watch as it sailed by, then my turn to enter... which I did and ran straight into a 2nd HUGE ship right behind the first. It pinned me in the window and crunched on me as it scraped by and asI received fines for "loitering." I was new enough not to understand fines which of course lead to my demise. The port window has a lot of lights, red lights, green lights, yellow arrows. Nobody seems to follow them.
The UI mechanics are amazing. I know how hard these are to design and this game is a 1st rate example of excellence.
Players have trouble with flying and docking. More flying and docking tutorials are needed. Suggestion: Place new users in a space academy and make them graduate before they get to own a shiny new ship.
My favorite feature is supercruise. It balances the sense of distance with the need for fast travel perfectly. Kudos to the designer that developed that balance between increase in velocity and ability to switch targets on the fly and stop on a dime... well my stops sometimes result in unexpected shortcuts but at least I'm trying.
Great work.
