whats the point? wheres the fun?

But that's the way the game was intended (at least going by every interview and article that was released about it by FD).
So I'd say: works as specified.

I may partially with you.

The fact that mining was promised, does not mean that has to be implemented quickly and very briefly; just to say "the game has mining".

Same goes for every other aspect of the game, beside trading. Forgive me, but truck simulator in space is something that would not require the genius and skillset of DB and many other devs at Frontier...it can be done by a team of indie

Actually it is for those who like Elite. It may be that it's not a reason for YOU to play games, but then Elite is simply not a game for you and you should stop waisting time playing it or coming here and posting about it.

<snip>your defense of misleading advertising! I've played many sandbox game, and this is NOT sandbox game.

How come you spend so much time on the forums attacking "whiners"? Surely if the game is as enjoyable as you claim you'd be, you know, playing it rather than talking about it. Nothing better to do than whine about whining? It's pretty sad really.

See how easy that is? I don't mind your FD love-in posts that have reasoned debate, but please stop with the stuff like that above as it does your arguments no favours at all.

Don't feed such feelings; there are fanboy, there are players, there are haters....can't make everyone happy.

I just don't get why someone has to defend (or bash) indiscriminately a product. Everything has positive and negatives; can't just focus on one or the other IMO

Next time macdonalds serve somone a raw burger il have them call you for legal representation

Wait...what??? Did you ever play any other MMO? There is no MMO that has arcade fight mechanics, but beside that, even FPS nowadays go online and make a big effort to involve players.

ED is more similar to a FPS mmo, than the old RPG archetype; so can't really say that it is a niche game. It WAS a niche game; 30 years ago.

The fact that YOU like it, does not mean either that this is how the game was supposed to be. Pretty sure that the majority got used to the game, because that's what it is...can't change it, but leave a half baked remake of the original game, when we could have a great top notch innovative space saga game, feels just like a missed opportunity.

Every interview, every document and every video made it clear that Elite would be as it is now. Why expect anything else? To use Hyperlethals comparison: You cannot fault McDonalds if you expect the BigMac to be exactly like a Whopper.

For MMO's that have Arcade fight mechanics look to DC Universe Online or Tera, but actually that is beside the point. Just because other games are what they are doesn't mean Elite has to be the same.

You have to look at it not only from the game perspctive but also from the economic side.

FD had little money (comapred to the likes of Star Citizen). And they needed to come out to earn more money so they could continue fleshing out the game.
The alternative would have been:
- Not come out for Christmas (big financial hit).
- Come out when Star Citizen comes out (big financial hit, because at that time many people would buy either/or...no matter whether SC is better or not. Even coming out mid 2015 some customers would say they'll wait for Christmas for SC to turn up).
- Or maybe not come out at all when the money runs out and not every gamer would have screamed "hurrah" at the result.

So they did what was sensible. Put a game out there that is very well playable and add more content a bit at a time (and use the intervening time to balance stuff and add some bells and whistles. Looking at the 1.1 patch I'd say they are on the right track).

I'm pretty happy with that, as I have not so much time to play. Gets me time to learn the ropes and then relish in the epicness of the scale before later diving into the epicness of galaxy dynamics to come (which I'm sure they will once Thargoids show up. I'm certain they will eventually be more than just a 'random encounter'. Group goals freeing systems and the like seem made for this kind of setup)

A big hug for you, and your defense of misleading advertising! I've played many sandbox game, and this is NOT sandbox game.

There is no misleading advertising!

I have yet to get a Big Mac from McDonalds that looks like those on TV but I would NEVER even remotly expect that. I DO expect that the basic ingrediens are there, and that is all I can expect.

If the Big Mac isn't your taste don't eat it.

So, from this thread, I gather that for all games I'm bored with and uninstalled, but I paid for, I should be posting on their forums how bad they are.. I see.

BTW this 'sandbox' term. Its do nebulous as to be meaningless.

Probably depends on your emotional, monetary, and time investment in said games. Where all three are low, then people are probably inclined to drop it without a peep. When they're not low, well, they're not likely to simply drop it! :D Hope that helps. ;)

The question you need to ask yourself with all games is "did I have enough fun with this to justify the purchase price?"

I'm sure I'd get bored of ED eventually, but since beta I'd say my answer is a resounding yes.

Not necessarily.

If you were expecting a lot from a product, pay for it, and try to understand it; you have all the rights to post on the forum.

The reason why we see rubbish on the market, is because people consider goods and games, like they consider a loss on the stock market: it was a mistake, let's never talk about it anymore and move on.

This is not what customers should do: if they don't like something, they voice their opinion, unless the seller give them back their money. I am not happy about the game, I voice my opinion, the devs see it, know what I think, know that I pay the food that they put on their table and feed their families, and think that maybe after 30 years waiting, maybe something more could've been done.

If the post is just bashing, then I agree with you, but the OP has honest points that are not purely a hatred trolling galore.
Others may agree or not, but this is what they call "freedom of expression". As long as a person does not offend anyone, has the right to say whatever he believe in. If he is wrong, because facts are different and can be proven, then someone will put facts on the table and he will re-elaborate his thoughts.
Otherwise every user remain on their opinion, each one read each other opinion and everything ends there.

Talking does not mean "you must accept what I say"; nor "I am right, you are wrong"....we talk to exchange ideas, thoughts and opinions.

There is absolutely no sand in this sandbox! Only wooden planks marking where sandbox should be.

Actually NO. Your expectations are YOUR expectations and don't factor into any objective view on the game.
It can only be about hard facts. What features where announced. That's it.

That is your personal view. That is fine. If for your the sandbox is empty leave it. But don't tell all those kids who are happyli playing with there toys in the sand that they don't can have fun and DON'T expect someone to change the sand that is there for those other kids into the sand you wish you had.

If your idea of sandbox is playing with toy cars on concrete pavement fine. But i like to have my trucks and hauling sand from one place to another and building casles from it and defend it and siege other castles. I like to build trade, defend and attack and make change in universe! I want to join fleet that owns few stations and defends them against players, supply them with goods and get rich by trading with other stations and we all get our cut, we all work together.

So if you like this sterile absolutely stale universe where ships that cost 1 000 000 000 - 500 000 000cr and destroying them gives you 100 000cr reward as bounty seems ok? Oh 100k is not that big problem, but 10k ammo cost, 200k interdiction cost, 100k running cost, so yeah this suuuuuux!

You could always go play EVE, press a button and have it play the game for you.

The boringness and tedium of mining/chasing rocks.

The uselessness of exploring vs the cost of the equipment needed....

Combat is kinda fun.

Missions??? wow talk about lack of imagination.

Back story of the world? see above

Factions fighting each other because they.... Again see above.

Trading? Way to fill the wallet fast. Aside from that what's the point?

MMO? why bother? There's no reason to interact with each other except to kill one another.

YAY I can paint my ship that no one will ever see.

These things aside, I was enjoying the game. It's nice to be able to jump in and fly some. It seems to be missing a lot though. Why is space a sludge and why do I always stop when I kill the engine? That is one of the things that really bothered me. My biggest  moment though, and the reason I haven't logged in since, was paying a 250k bill for ship integrity. I didn't notice the cost being the cost of a new hull. I didn't notice the cost being almost my entire wallet. Yeah, I know I should have paid more attention(it is free). But I just see very little point in logging in now. When I think about it I think about how the system basically robbed me and get a bad taste in my mouth and just don't click that button.

Basically I agree with to to some extent in all of the above, it's all very samey, very little distinction between systems, faceless missions that could just as well all read "take your ship here and back and you'll get some cash" etc... However... where you (and a bunch of other people, it seems) see failure I see opportunity. For me, this game is not nearly finished and therefore I choose to see it as such. For various reasons they felt they had to release something, but feature-wise it doesn't even match the 20+ years older Frontier (which I was a huge fan of). So I choose to see it as a stepping stone to the next level.. This game will gradually become better and better and filled with more content and in a couple of years (hopefully it will survive that long) it will be an EPIC space simulator. And looking back I will be glad I was on this journey from the beginning.
