Ah - that's Sovereign, A Reaper from Mass Effect.
Considering what Reapers could do - give me the Thargoids any day!

Never saw that one on the C64. But I did see a carrier/transporter-type leaving stations that had smaller ships strapped to its belly (I think it was 3 ships and one obvious 'empty' slot). The manual mentioned huge 'generation ships' but that was just fluff (unfortunately).I maybe imagining it, but wasn't there a dreadnought or something like that in the original elite, huge ship that just cruised around, few KM long as well. This was on the C64.
Those are the ships of Archimedes Elite, which was the best version (actually a complete rewrite) of the classic Elite.I found this pic (original URL for bigger version http://i.imgur.com/fwcH0cy.jpg)
I demand they un-nerf the ship selection. Good ships, but not enough variety yet. In the words of Oliver Twist "Please sir, I want some more."Yes, we must beat him with a stick until he screams "I demand they un-nerf something"![]()
According to the original elite manual (as shared on Ian Bell's home page):Back in the early 80's when I was around 12 years old there was a rumour of a massive dreadnought in elite, it was supposed to be 10 miles long, were the adults in the computer club lying to me?
It also mentions:Space Dredgers These immense factory ships are to be found wherever there has been a war, or a Thargoid invasion, or a natural catastrophe. More than forty miles long, the dredgers are a life-form to themselves. The Dredgers are huge cities in space, feeding off debris and ruination. Heavily armed, and with fleets of reconditioned fighter ships, they are to be avoided at all cost.
I put a lot of hours into BBC, Electron and PC versions of Elite, and never saw either of the above.Generation Ships Before the development of the WS Thru-Space drive, in all its various forms, interstellar travel occurred in large, self-sustaining environment ships - Generation Ships - most of which have now been logged and their progress monitored. There are more than seventy thousand of these immense vessels ploughing their way through the galaxy, some of them into their 30th generation. The penalty for interference with such a vessel is marooning.

They weren't in the game (neither were space hermits...though I did once find an asteroid that was tagged as a targettable blip on the radar. But that may have just been a bug.).I put a lot of hours into BBC, Electron and PC versions of Elite, and never saw either of the above.
...And the C64 version:

I guess a lot of people are missing the point. "Classic ELITE ship".
I vote for a Krait but it has to look closely like the original, not like the Adder which isn't even remotely Adder-ish![]()
