Fed up chasing Ghosts

I've been playing ED since beta and playing as a fully fledged Bounty Hunter career since the launch on 16th Dec, I pretty much I think that I know what I am doing and have earned over 10 million Cr from NPC kills and rank as expert. But in two months of playing NOT ONCE have I successfully interdicted a human pirate that was wanted and had a bounty to claim.

Now i'm a mature guy not and I'm not one to throw my teddy out of the window and say i'm quitting lightly but what I will say is that Thursday is my weekly night free from work and kids and my regular game night, almost every Thursday since the 16th i've played ED, but i'm feeling so despondent about it right now that doubt that I'll be logging in to ED this evening i'm just plain fed up chasing a career path that the game simply does not support, the very few times that I have come across a wanted player they just went *poof* when interdicted. Feeling the lack of pirates I decided to turn to piracy myself but every trader that I interdict just goes *poof*
I'll probably still log in from time to time as i'm a long time fan and would love to see this game work. But the game has become a completely pointless, frustrating waste of time for me. So much for the dream of a multiplayer Elite.

As far as I can tell this game only really appeals to the space trucker community and a few die hards that are ok playing against the AI..

it can be done, a pair just abused my generosity to kill me :p though without scanning me which probably shows a degree of incompetance

If you wanna interdict succesfully you basicly need a bigger/faster ship that can mass lock a smaller one and thus making escape more difficult.
There are pirates/bounty hunters out there who are succesfull so it is possible but probably not easy.

Snakebite is talking about people "combat logging", which is where they log off to avoid being killed. ED is working on punishing people for combat logging.

They are only successful at NPC bashing which is easy.... I can earn millions sat at a RES taking out an endless stream of dumb NPC pirates, its about as challenging as a duck shoot.
For this game to hold my attention any longer I need some degree of PvP ,and not PvP through some artificial arena type thing it needs to be proper PvP in the natural flow of the game.

I'm just not getting that and whenever I come close I get *poof* so i'm just left flying around chasing a dream really.....

I feel your pain OP I stopped trying to pirate/BH players because of the inevitable combat log as soon as you interdict/winning. 4 times in a row and I gave up that career path til it's fixed :[

Out of curiosity. what system are you in OP? :]

You sure its combat logging and not netcode problems, ? - I've been successfully interdicted more than once (in a truncated laggy impossible to follow interdiction minigame I might add) by players that then fail to appear in sublight...I doubt they had second thoughts about beating me up and logged themselves out.

It's just the same old crappy p2p issues,

*Why* - FD didn't just decide to make a kickass singleplayer game with some limited multiplayer co-op/competitive modes when they knew p2p was the best they could do...well...yeah, that's a whine for another thread.

But a bit more whine, building this kind of ambitious online player interaction on top of p2p is like setting up a skyscraper on a sandbar.

I've had that problem 1 or 2 times where they don't appear but all of the times I encountered its mid interdiction or after they're losing in a fight.

As to why there's not single player... well. I believe they already have a thread about the restrictions it would've placed on the game.

Right, restrictions on the kind of ambitious evolving multiplayer experience they wanted to build (great!)......on top of a crippled peer to peer netcode (not great!) <headdesk>

Ah I'm sure it'll work out in the end.

Sorry to break it to you then. Most just don't want PVP. I don't engage in PVP simply because all the ships are stupid weak and melt to fast. Even under the lightest of fire. Perhaps you find another game. And as for Frontier trying to stop combat logging... It will probably never happen since they don't even host the server. Its a p2p client side server.

Fortunately there are still some people left who aren't using exploits to run away cowardly...
And indeed Yembo is a good spot... but beware because it is also full of bounty hunters !!!

btw If it is combat logging, we indeed need a solution for this problem. Even if the game is P2P there are ways to make it work.
f.e. If someone combat logs after interdiction the other party gets x-amount of credits. This way the interdictor gets his bonus for the effort while at the same time someone who has connection problems don't get a punishment.
But in all fairness if you have to many connection problems after interdiction you shouldn't be playing open anyway ....
If you don't show up after committing the other party should win and you should loose. If i disconnect during on online race (iRacing) i loose because ... well the race is still going. The connection problem argument as a defence is pure nonsense.

So, you don't want PvP but....play in open?

Hoping for that Braben sighting or something?

I thought the reason to boot up open was either to kill humans or have the thrill of being killed/robbed by them.

Until Frontier makes ways for players to make a decent profit other than trading I will stick to group or solo. I don't fancy taking a stupid amount of damage then having to pay super high repair cost to fix it.

A wouldn't mind trying pvp, but currently there is just no point or reason given the current game we are playing.

Maybe you'll find me a day around your space ^^ Last time I got dragged out of SC by a commander, he lost his ship!!! :D :D :D

I don't play in open. As I said before there is no point in my opinion since the current game is just a mix of muddled and broken or poorly implemented gameplay mechanics. Perhaps in 6 months or so we may see a change for the better. Though until then I have no desire to play in open.

I've interdicted players a number of times back when I was closer to starting systems. They weren't difficult to interdict and they didn't combat log. They all tried running away except one guy in a python, granted I was in an eagle at the time and despite what you may think, we were both pretty much even when the police showed up to ruin the fun.

None were wanted, since it's fairly easy to not be wanted.

Now fast forward to post 1.1. I rarely get CMDR's crossing my path but a wanted one actually showed up in my system! Of course he dropped out of SC as soon as he saw me approach. I followed his cloud. Tore his Asp up in my viper but he managed to frame shift away as his hull was taking a beating. Surprisingly he didn't jump to another system, so i saw him again in SC and followed but he logged off or changed game modes. Wasn't combat logging since it occurred in supercruise and i wasn't directly interacting with him but I dont think i'll see him around anytime soon.

I treat this game like a single player game currently. Until you can get player factions in the game, communicate with group members regardless of what server they're on reliably and coordinate defense and offensive activities, then it's single player with the random crazy NPC who is actually a player showing up.

BTW, since the new patch, i'm far more annoyed at the NPCs than any players running away and logging off. Wanted NPC's are now much fewer, and non-wanted USS's are much more common, yielding huge time wastes for any bounty hunters, especially when the few Wanted NPC's you find run away in mid-fight. It's almost like their FSD doesn't produce heat and can charge while hardpoints are out (despite the changelog saying this was addressed).
