Newcomer / Intro Confused about load out and jump range

K noob question:

I just got a Cobra MKiii and it has a really low jump range - not near good enough to leave the current system.

I bought the best FSD I could afford but it still hasn't increase any.

I only have one cannon and a basic scanner... I am confused how I can get more range in order to get to other systems...

Wish I'd kept hold of my ol' faithful hauler now!

Sounds like you have bought a FSD that is too low a class for your ship.

did you buy the right class? cobra uses a class 4 drive. did you by any chance fit a class 3 to it?

my cobra is loaded down with all manner of crap including heavy military armour, but it still has a range of about 13Ly, more than enough for most jumps - and that's with a C grade drive, which can be improved
