Why are the AI so `black knight`

You know the Black Knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail.
After his arm is cut off "tis but a scratch".

When I fight AI ships they start by saying "time to die fool" or something similar.
By the time I get them down to 1% hull (btw why do most AI have no shields?) they normally chip in
with "I feed on your corpse!", "you'll float in the void of space", "Soon your cargo will be mine" or whatever.

Bit lame really.

It's funny that, because when I start smacking them hard, I get the 'It's not my time to die' type dialogue and 'I'm getting out of here'.

So we've seen what you don't like about it but what are your suggestions to make it better?

Nothing at all is better than stock, lame catch phrases, but X3 never learned that either.

FOR THE QUEEN!

Jeff dunham: So what are you going to do now that you're dead?
Achmed: Dead? No I'm not.
Jeff Dunham: But you're just bones.
Achmed: It's a flesh wound.

Yes, I've come across that, I've even had them send a last second threat to send me to the void as their ship blew up.

It would be funnier if they sent a message saying "sorry, didn't mean to try to blow you up."
