The reason why I have played less Elite is.. all the waiting all the time

Waiting to get up to Surface again. Waiting for blast wall to be lowered.

The landing ramp things are stupid, I agree there. They don't even do anything, even in a narrative sense.

But anyway, do what you gotta do in station, press launch, then immediately (even while the ship is lowering) save and quit to the main menu, go back into the game and you're outside the station outside mass lock. :)

Have you played any other simulators? It is not really a genre that delivers back to back instant gratification :)

That said it would be nice to see the time to SS or HS be dependent on the grade of your FSD drive, instead of being locked at 4 seconds.

The star port platform thing I assumed was a animation done to entertain a loading event.

I get what you mean OP, maybe some speeding tweaks would improve the experience a bit. Although I find these small downtimes to be strangely relaxing. Not every game has to be like an ADHD chicken on methamphetamines.

Waiting for blast wall to be lowered.

This is actually what really annoys me. What is the point of the blast wall?! It's not like you would take off like an airplane going forward, you go straight up! Very unnecessary.

I guess us old folks were trained into waiting by have to load games into an Electron or a Spectrum. The Speccy's psychedelic loading bands with a variety of ear piercing squeaks and the Electron 01, 02, 03 etc bred the patience of a saint, especially if an error happened in loading.

Kids eh, don't know they're born ;)

I think there should be two options to play the game. First the actualy gameplay we already have and a second option you can choose from the Login screen. "Win all" will instantly be followed by the "You won!" screen with some bling bling on it and the deletion of the account, since it is no longer used.

Sorry for trolling... I could not resist! ;-)

Actually no one realy likes to wait, but it IS part of realism. Think of a train simulator that woul "jump" from station to station. Wouldn't be very attractive, would it?

that I have gotten tired of all the waiting and monotomeus sequences in the game.

Waiting in starport turning on landing pad and decsending in garage. Why cant we access station menu while this sequence is running?
Waiting to get up to Surface again. Waiting for blast wall to be lowered.
Waiting to get out of mass lock till SS
Waiting 4 sec or more to enter SS and HS
Waiting in HS to load instance
Arriving at Star, waiting to turn ship around to avoid melting.
Waiting at SS exit to load Starport, nav Point etc
Waiting in SS travelling to reach dest. This can be huge waiting

There is far too much waiting and dead time. This shouls be slimlined more.
Imaging pressing HS and 2 sec later you are in a new system NOT facing the bloody star.

And lets not talk about all the waiting in missions USS...oh my.

Hehe, yep there is a lot of waiting in the game. The other day I read this definition of warfare and thought it kind of fits the elite gamplay experience:

“Months of boredom punctuated by moments of extreme terror."

But quite honestly I dont mind. I think the waiting adds to the atmosphere and the feeling of the vastness of the universe. Plus I find it kind of relaxing after a stressful day at work. I can watch the game with one eye and a TV show with the other while I space truck commodities from one space port to the next... unless I forget to request docking permission with a cargo hold full of palladium, thats where the moments of terror come from :)

Euro Truck Simulator doesn't really make you drive all the miles between places - just saying. ;)

LOL! 100% true. Albeit I had the superior C64 :p

Luckily E : D doesnt let you fly all the lightyears between two stars either (probably with sub light speed .. because realism) ;)

Well, when I play ETS, I'm never sitting with absolutely nothing to do - there's just a bit too much of that in ED IMHO. I'm not insta-grat, but I do seem to spend an awful lot of time with my hands off the controls waiting for stuff to happen.

Yeah there certainly ARE periods where not a lot happens, no doubt about that. Your mileage may of course vary, but as I said before, personally I dont mind that after a long day at work. When I go space trucking I simultaneously catch up on TV shows on Netflix. I find it relaxing. When I want hard and fast action I play a different game.

To wait allows to appreciate even more when that happens

In a horror game, or something, yes anticipation is good. In ED, nothing different is going to happen when your ship goes into the bowels of the station, spins, comes back up and waits for the blast things to lower! :p

I agree. Maybe I'm just impatient but waiting for the blast shield to lower is quite annoying.

I have to agree with the "blast shield", I mean we take off vertically, and on many stations there is a two story building/structure directly behind it anyway.

I could happily lose that particular extra animation/delay without losing any immersion

My joy, and curse, is that I play with a DK2! Visually, ED is amazing in the Rift and I'd never go back to a monitor (I actually wouldn't be playing ED at all if it wasn't for the Rift) - but this kind of precludes "doing other stuff" to a large degree. I guess that's part of the issue for me - hence the "curse".
