How can there be pirates if traders dont want to allow themselves to be attacked? You should all be accountants and stare at a speadsheet. GG FD.
Can't believe that FD are listening to people who want to do somthing mindless and safe and take the rest of the game down with them.

Actually it is not FD listening to other players it is mostly THEIR vision they are putting into the game. Combat ist just an option in Elite and was NEVER the focus nor was it meant to be.
I wish before I had bought the game, that they had said, traders are safe as houses, so there will be no pirating, and because of that, there will be no bounty hunting ..... what IS there?
You say that the game is currently lacking pirates.
That seems to suggest there are more traders in open than pirates.
So, no need to do anything about group and solo. Forcing a mode will not help that balance at all.
I do agree that pirates should be able to get more income though.

There seems to be an arguemnet that you can go bling a ship in solo with no threat and then appear in open as if making money cant be done on open
I have a lonely 6 station run - 2 systems regualry have zero traffic but me totally open play I can make a load of moneyt and then move to a player populated area and cause havoc
no doubt though if (when) i do I'll be accused of being a solo player who hase moved to open after cheating my way through solo (much like those who lose to other players think that the other player must be a hacker)

Pirate NPC's. You can pirate anyone you see in Open. The people in Open welcome your interaction. Players are given a choice in how they play in order to attract as many players as they can.

There is a raging debate over the exclusion of an Offline mode. Elite is based on solo play. You will just have to come to grips with the fact that your vision of E: D is not the same as that of the Dev's, among others.
Multiple slots is a major downer if such will ever happen. Due the reason you stated. To have multiple CMDR slots should cost like $5 or somesuch, derive local currencies as fit.

I played original elite, no pick of modes in there, just 'make wrong decision and get wrekt' mode. Most of you were probably still in nappys. What a remake. I thank the admin who stepped in earlier, but now I've heard all I need to hear. What a joke. Traders crying about lost cargo to pirates and FD bend over backwards. My questions have been answered. Such a shame. FD could have been onto a winner with this.

If you have played the original Elite, you must have noticed that there were no other players, just AI.
Guess what: Elite Dangerous also has AI. You know what this AI is doing? Among others interdicting and attacking traders. Playing solo is not the risk-less safe haven for cargo runners as you seem to believe. Is that really so hard to understand?

You're under the mistaken assumption that they're broken. They are working exactly as intended, as has already been explained to you.
