USS In Deep Space????

Right, I am about 1000LY from occupied space and exploring happily when I notice something out there in space. I slow down to check it out and see it is a USS. I was not game to drop out of SC to look as I want to get back home to sell all of my exploration data. has anyone else seen USS's in deep space and if so what are they? As far as I am able to tell no-one has been through this area before as there is no "discovered by" on any of the systems I look at.

USS'es can be found everywhere as they are Unidentified Signals. Just like everywhere else they can contain anything: loot, weddings, pirates, tech buyers etc.

Your deep space wasn't deep enough. There are no USSs or NPCs there. I'm sure there was a populated system less then 1000 ly from you.

I'm over a 1000 Ly away from Sol heading to the core, and found a USS when I was scanning a planet.
Like the OP, I thought "what the heck?" but I dropped in.

It contained three ships, all Sidewinders I think. I didn't wait long enough to scan one as I got an immediate "what do you carry?" from one. High-tailed it out of there. Thought it was pretty strange; how would Sidewinders get that far out? It's the only USS I've seen since leaving populated space.

I have come across this since 1.1 started. I believe the devs have taken on board the whinging by the we have nothing to do crowd and upped the instances of USS and somehow had a blanket approach to it. In addition the npc ranks now mean something. I had an elite eagle have a go at me just like old school elite. No scan just fired from the word go, very cunning and twisty and some good shooting. Quite a surprise when not expecting it. I'd say expect a lot more of this sort of thing. Also on a slightly illogical point, I've noticed a lot of these new interactions are by clean pilots often with no bounty when scanned. Quite a nuisance.

I'm really annoyed by this. Aren't you guys? I'm currently only 400 Ly from the edge of the bubble and I see NPC all the time and get interdicted all the time. It's just stupid. I mean, I could perhaps justify one or two encounters per let say every 20 systems I visit. But almost every single system, even the most insignificant brown dwarf system with one small ice planet? It's not realistic in the scope of things. A pirate on earth, historical or modern, wouldn't hunt the sea of the south pacific, or the middle of the Atlantic. They hunt along trade routes.

Exploring NPC or what ever they are doing the ones that aren't interdicting you should also dispense somewhat.

USS's should not contain NPCs this far out, only artifacts (WHICH SHOULDN'T BE DECLARED STOLEN) which could be sold for a lot, I say ALOT of cash at a station. This would be another reason to go out and explore, for the off chance you find something special to bring back other than data.

I'm with you on this. NPC's appearing at Every. Single. System. from about 500LY from the bubble is barmy.

I've got to run that gauntlet (after a 20,000 LY round trip) in a few days time in my unarmed Cobra. Wish me luck.

I'm about 700 Ly from the nearest inhabited system, and for the most part I haven't seen an NPC in a long time. I did only today come across a USS. I dropped out of SC out of curiosity, and there was a Lakon Type 6 escorted by two Sidewinders. And two eagles looking to intercept them. The Eagles scanned me, so I took them out. But being it's the only npcs I've seen in a few days, I figure it's a deep space survey mission or something, or a hunt for some lost explorer, whatever.

However having said that, when I was in the 200-300 Ly out from the nearest inhabited system, I was seeing NPCs in every system I went too, and was still getting interdicted.

It should be a fairly easy thing to alter, so I wonder why they have it in. It does't add anything to the game what so ever.

Well it used to be that you would only see NPC's up to 450LY out from occupied space, and afaik its still the same, as on my current trip I was still seeing NPC's up until I was 500LY away and I havnt seen any since.
Saying that, I have been 800LY out from occupied space, found a system with a black hole that had a USS about 5LS from it, had to drop out and see what it was, dumped cargo, nothing else.

It's not as much that there shouldn't be any NPCs or USSs in deep space... it's just that there should be very few of them. AND! There shouldn't be any pirates out there at all. Not even one jump beyond the bubble. If there aren't any trade ships going there, then there shouldn't be any pirates. One is the result of the other.
