Ship Progression

Aim for at least 1000 Cr/Ton on trades routes, there are plenty of commodities you can do this with.

Trade circuits are more fun than endlessly grinding back and forth, bellow is one of my favourite, all the following can yield 1000 Cr/Ton per leg.

Industrial - Pick up Marine Equipment / Crop Harvesters)
Agriculture -Pick up Tea, Coffee, Meat, Tabaco or Imperial Slaves (If legal)
Refinery - Pick up Gold, Palladium, Beryllium, Silver, Super Conductors.
High Tech - Pick up Auto Fabs, Consumers Electronics, Performance Enhancers.

Just keep at it, don't get to concerned with progress - have fun with it, at least you won't be burning out on the games content like so many others.

Absolutely right! Find the style that makes it fun for you. Doing the same thing over and over gets old quick. Running rares allows you to stop and explore, make a trading profit, and kill the occasional stupid pirate. All in the same trip. The ASP is perfect for that, but you can get pretty close with the Cobra as well. I never look at the balance sheet until I'm done having a good time.

Just for fun, I went to ED Shipyard and you can spec out a Cobra with 20LY jump range with 36T cargo and a fuel scoop and shield.

Pretty decent ROI machine. With 4A power plant and FSD - just under 4Mil

Cobra's are exellent low cost rares haulers. And you can still go out and shoot things when you're sick of trading.

My advice, set long term goals but don't strive to them. Have fun, if you enjoy trading keep trading, try out lots of different routes, go to ouposts, run some drugs and maybe work for "Human resources". Don't just try and make money. Then one day you'll say "Huh, I've got enough for a T7/clipper. Sweet."

Just like to thank everyone again for the advice, you're right if the monotony of the grind gets too much - go do something else.

I sold up the Lakon 6 and bought a Cobra, fewer cargo slots but much more confident in taking out pirates and, with a suitably upgraded FSD, I'm jumping around the rare ring as suggested. Great fun.

Thanks again.

Just a word of caution on the Asp. I have spent 28 million on it so far and its still not fully upgraded. I love it for trading and bounty hunting, but as i use it for multipurpose I only get 92 tons of cargo. Less that the T6.

I think smaller trades with a suitably armed Cobra is the way forward for me, little more effort for the rare's but the return isn't that shy of several Lakon 6 trips.

Back in the "Quiet Room?" :)

Looks like I'm too late to suggest keeping the T6 as dedicated trader as well as having summit fancy pants! Ah weel.

I think I went cobra, cobra/T6, Asp/T6, Asp/ Viper to where I'm at now after a long time getting a T7 to join the other two. Asp is a keeper.

Slow play? Yes.
Skint? Yes.
Happy? Oh aye!

Happy travels.

It is unfortunate for those of us that don't get as much time to play but that is the way it is.

I made money quicker and safer in the asp than I did with the t6 - it's a lovely ship to fly and you get your invested credits back when you trade up.

You will (eventually get to a t7) and that makes quite a difference to your credits per hour (although you cannot land at outposts).

When you arrive at a station, always check the bulletin board.
It's a sweet bonus to pick up a well paid supply mission for cargo you already have in your hold.

I'd heard that, makes dodging the police more difficult, especially as dashing into a station has become infinitely more dangerous.

When I first got my T6 I did a travelling salesman route of rare trades buying what was available at each stop using this tool http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/ - I fitted an Advanced Disco Scanner as soon as I had enough cash so grabbed exploration data along the way.

Makes life much more interesting than a simple trade grind and ended up arriving home with about 4 mil Cr and an ADS I could sell to bump me up to Asp territory

Just take it slow and you will get there.
I have at the moment 1 Hauler, 1 Cobra, 1 Viper and 1 T6.
I use the viper or the cobra for bounty hunting, missions etc. and i use the 6 for a 1 jump cargo run with both stations close, the cargo run gives me arround 2000 cr/t for a round trip and does't change because there are not much other players in this aerea.
The hauler is in another system where i did a station to station run in 1 system that gave me arround 1400 cr/t.

Be carefull with trade routes with multiple jumps or stations far away because it might cost you more time, sure its nice to see you made 2000 cr/t but if that takes you 30 minutes and another route with only 1000 cr/t takes you only 5 minutes then something goes wrong ;-)
