Thinking of buying type7 wondering about upgrades etc

Cheers for the tips, managed to actually get away with an 2A Power Generator with my current load-out and no longer have overheating issues (will have to upgrade when I get my 5A FSD and fit a few defence items)

I was having the same overheating problem and also just fitted a 2A so hopefully mine will go away too.....

Thanks everyone.....

Now we have an update.

I took the advice and sold everything from my Cobra before trading in and gained another million so after a few trips and selling the main weapons off the Asp I had 23.5M Cr and still have both the pimped Viper and Asp.

So I've bought the type7 and upgraded all the modules to D except the FSD which is a B and the power plant because neither of the nearby systems have a 4D. I've done a return trip to a 13.5Ly station and made 0.5M Cr in about 10 minutes so thats looking good.

Just have that temperature problem which I'm about to find out if it is fixed....

Cheers....

If you want to put your money in trading with the T7, consider selling the Equipment of your ASP for now. You can keep the Ship, but, for example, sell the A5 FSD at the station you're going to buy the T7. That way, you can rebuy it after the Shipchange if I'm not mistaken, and without having to pay the extra 10% again for a new Part. If you got a solid trade route, it won't take much more than an hour for you to be able to rebuy the FSD for your ASP.

If you do these large jumps and outposts in between, perhaps a T7 won't even be the best choice for you anyway. There are <17ly Routes though that will get you far more than that, I'm currently at 650k/run with pretty much the layout Elfman just posted, except I have only 16t of fuel (an easy way to save weight, if your stations all refuel, it gets you bonus jumprange), and a run only takes 9 minutes the way I do it. With 3 dockings I estimate yours takes around 15 minutes. Still, almost 2m/hour in an ASP is not bad, if you're not sure, keep it for a while longer, and then maybe try out the T7 with the option of going back to ASP.

I sold the A5 FSD on my Asp when buying my T7 and fitted it to the T7, it was back in again a few hours later - it doesn't take long as with an efficient trade route you can make nearly 3M in an hour with a T7.
.
I would always suggest running with the biggest fuel tank just don't brim it every time, I tend to bung in 10% each trip and keep it only 40-50% full to keep weight down and extend the jump range.

I put everything into a T7 and ended up buying back an Asp so I could visit outposts as it limits missions and trade routes you can take. You won't get the T7 jumping 23ly laden - I think the best you'll get will be something in the region of 17.7ly based on what I was trying in the outfitters last night.

Mine also seem to run quite hot, so booting and then jumping will out heat about 100% for a while - I've yet to find an upgrade sweet spot with good thermal properties.

Having said all that, the 216 tonne cargo is well worth the upgrade so you can start to leverage those good supply runs

I've got an A2 power plant, A3 power distributor, and D5 thrusters and can perma-boost to 290ish with no power problems. The A2 provides enough power as I don't run weapons.

I have the Asp/T7 combo fleet. I switch the A5 FSD between the 2 ships, 5 mil saved right there! some of the other modules can be swapped but you need to ensure your home base outfitters have crappy modules to buy when switching.

I have been using thrudds and selected large landing pad. It said I could do my route which is between 2 stations and one orbital. I've got to the orbital but can't get docking permission. Is this because all orbitals and outposts are small/medium only or is it just busy?

I might be the outpost has been incorrectly set to the wrong type - you won't be landing a Type7 on one no matter how long you wait ! what system/ outpost are you looking at on thrudds - I have admin level so can correct it if you like

Well I've been running the type7 all day. It's not the quickest or most manoeuvrable ship in the galaxy but it gets the job done. Only problem are the brainless pirates who attack immediately rather than try and give demands plus the equally brainless AI ships crashing into everyone at the letterbox. I've got my cash up to 6.7M Cr again but need to update the power distributer, shields and FSD further. The clipper would be better but I have no rank and by the time you've upgraded the clipper quite a bit you've spent 40-70M Cr
