Fuel - how do stations get it delivered?

Ok, so fuel is not a commodity. I cannot buy it in 1 metric tonne jerry cans. At a station it's kind-of injected into the ship. No smoking in the area please.
So how does the station get it? A direct pipeline from the local star?
Someone must deliver it in some container surely.

It seems sensible to have some form of market in energy that takes supply and demand of such a basic element of any economy into account.
I always look at the traffic info at station and terminals etc. It gives an indication of one area of fuel demand. How much does a station need for other things? Do they get all their energy from an on station fusion power plant? But that still leaves fuel for the ships. A demand which can be seen from the traffic info to some extent; unless they all use fuel scoops.

If one could buy energy and transport energy then it could enable people to help out others.
Say you're in a group and you make the daft mistake of running out fuel somewhere. You should be able to signal your buddies to bring a few cans of it to get back 'home'.

I daresay that you could think of other scenarios.

Given it can be scooped from a star I've always assumed a small fleet of large fuel tank ships farm the star and sell it to the station. A dedicated ship for the purpose would seem sensible though

I've never paid much attention to it though because it's not particularly profitable, presumably because as someone else said anyone with a fuel scoop can just go and get more from the nearest star.

This commodity actually annoys the hell out of me, in FE you could store extra fuel in cargo and refuel as you went along. Now it's just a pointless commodity.

I liked that too. The ED state of affairs is purposeful, apparently. Not to worry: get a fuel scoop and solve all your fuel related problems.

I imagine that industrial fuel production is done through water electrolysis. You get oxygen from that too, which is pretty useful to have in space.
I think both Water and LOX was trade goods in FFE?

But on the OP's topic , .. All Commodities available at stations are mostly from the type of economy (Agri/Tech/Ind' etc) , but it does mention that Hyrdo Fuel is produced by all economies which is entirely likely given the main component appears to be Hydrogen .

Also, i was very surprised that hydro-fuel purchased as commodities was not loadable as fuel once in flight; makes perfect sense - to the point that i purchased some in one of my very 1st transactions in game assuming i would be able to! - i'm glad i am not the only one who recall's this from Frontier Elite , i though i was just having a senior moment!

Fuel is extracted from the tears of people boosting in station walls, loosing their Asp because of uncovered insurance and former Python owners.
