Declining a mission reduces faction rep?

A couple of times now I've entered a mission description, thought about it, and declined it.

Then, after refreshing the bulletin, I look again and the same mission is listed but now the faction doesn't trust me enough.

Does the simple act of looking at a mission description and declining it reduce faction rep? That seems a little broken, if so.

Yes it does. Happened to me lots of times. See a mission to bring 47 scrap to the current location. Go to the market to see if they sell scrap. Go back to the BB and the scrap mission is no longer available because they don't trust you enough any more.

It's a real kick in the cuds when you go to check the map to see if the delivery mission is to an outpost with no large landing pads, go back to the BB and they no longer trust you. It's if this is working as intended.

This happens a lot to me. If I wait until the next 5 minute interval where missions can respawn then it usually is available again. There is no actual rep loss, as I proved by being at reputation cap, entering a lot of mission description and not taking them, then verifying I was still at rep cap.

I think it's a bug. I also notice if I take one mission for a faction others sometimes do this temporary drop to unavailable, until the next 5 minutes.

Never had that happen to me before. I've spent the last 3 weeks boosting my rep with all 3 factions and 2 are now allied and one is friendly, bring on the double agent missions!. This means I've been regularly going in and out of missions to see if certain things are sold locally, its never negatively affected my rep. Do you actually see red down arrows against the relevant faction in the rep panel after this happens? Don't forget, missions update all the time so you may just find that the original one is gone and its in fact a new mission, though why they wouldn't trust you if its the same faction/mission is a bit of a mystery. In short, if you don't see the red down arrows against the faction, then I very much doubt its negatively affected you.

No red arrows or anything like that. The missions literally just become unavailable due to trust. It's interesting that goilveig has tested the situation.

Yes I don't think it's a rep hit. If a faction trusts you enough seems to be very glitchy, if you exit and re-enter the board or wait a few minutes it seems to change back and forth sometimes.

I've also seen them drop to unavailable due to trust many times, but I don't believe that the faction rep actually takes a hit.

No red arrows; it's not a real rep loss, just missions that fall to unavailable, typically temporarily.

Same mission - same faction, time, objective, etc. I have had this happen with factions I was reputation capped with - can't get blue arrows for either minor or major faction since I am as deep into allied as you can be. It's not possible for them to not trust me enough.

Keep the bulletin board mission open and you can still access the galaxy map via your right hand panel. This way you can check what you need to and then make a judgement on doing the mission or not :)

I think the missions may just be recycling on you, or perhaps the odd one is a bit twitchy. Don't forget you can do missions for minor unaffiliated/opposing factions at the same station that WILL negatively affect your rep with the controlling faction but even then just looking shouldn't hurt. :)

It's a long standing bug. I reported in back in Beta2, and in Gamma.

Basically, it's this:

The first time the missions interface is displayed, certain faction missions are available.
The second time (no matter what the reason) the missions interface is displayed, even immediately, again, many faction missions will "not trust you enough".

If you logout of the game entirely, and/or come back in a different game mode, sometimes you can get the "first time display" to show up again. Sometimes not.
If you go to another system, though, and come back, it always shows you the "first time display" missions, and you can then accept the ones that are not available on the second view.

Yet another in a long list of persistent major bugs that have never been fixed. /shrug

I've sen something like this.... but it wasn't from declining a mission. I often accept any missions I can that are for data transport, or the bring (insert random items here) back here for profit. Anything that dose not carry a fine if I fail to do it in time. Sometimes I will pick up one mission, then another mission further down the list will pop into the "this faction dose not trust you enough" pile, despite the fact I was able to pick it up a few moments ago. Because of this I target the higher reward missions 1st when picking them up, as it would be silly to miss out of a 100k mission for a small 10k one.

Perhaps declining missions has the same effect and I have never noticed.

Nope, declining has no impact, it's just co-incidentally, typically, the second view of the missions interface.
You can reproduce the bug trivially:
Travel to a system via hyperspace that has multiple stations.
Dock at a station with a bulletin board.
Open the bulletin board/missions interface, note all the missions you can and cannot get.
Close the bulletin board.
Open the bulletin board, note the missions list will have changed, and now some that you could have obtained 5 seconds ago are now unavailable, and the reason is always "this faction does not trust you enough".
Cheer, because you're reproduced a bug that has been around for months. Collect your QA tester paycheque of zero rubles. ;)

Ive had this happen, sometimes just leaving the starport menu completely then reopening it shoves them back into the available missions,

I think it is a bug, I tested this once by opening and closing the bulletin board multiple times one after another and sometimes 1 mission will be listed in the available list, and then the same mission will be listed unavailable, and then back again.
