General / Off-Topic Happy New Year!

Any news on Elite IV?

No?

Thought not.

See you next year for more of the same.

(Hopefully Mr. Braben will, you know, actually release this game before most of the original fans are dead)

Happy New Year!

Still no news on Elite IV?

Really?

What's that you say? The Outsider has dropped off the map too?

Oh! A connectable animal game type thing has been released.

Err, OK.

See you next year for more of the same.

I suspect the former but have to admit (grinds teeth) he makes a fair point. The Outsider was announced in 2005, and apart from DB's reassurance that it was still in development in April 2010, no further news. Other Frontier games have been said to be leading to E4 technology, but it's hard to see how that can apply to Kinectimals. Very reluctantly I'm beginning to believe that financial pressures on Frontier will mean E4 doesn't happen. The PC gaming market is now a tiny fraction of the total, even longstanding serious strategy games such as Civilisation have been dumbed down and "consoled" in their latest incarnation. It's hard to see a hardcore, serious space sim that takes time to get into, being financially viable. Add to that the general reduction in space-themed entertainment (RIP Star Trek) and it's hard to be optimistic that Henry Krinkle will not be able to leave the same message this time next year.

Please prove me wrong, Frontier!!

And meanwhile a genuine Happy New Year to patient forum posters here:smilie:

Yeah, let's face it. We're in 2011 and there's still no word on Elite 4. Ain't gonna happen. Dogs and tigers are more important

Personally, I'm more than happy with FFED3D. Still, would've been nice...

Well, there is also Pioneer too!:)
As for the animals, I think they look pretty convincing and cute. It would not be a large leap to use the lessons learned in Kinectimals to create alien life to populate planets in Elite IV

We'll allow Tribbles won't we?;)

Sorry to be downbeat Geraldine: I'm trying to keep the faith too, but there seems to be nothing happening. BTW does anyone know if Callum is still around? He hasn't posted since September, and is listed as pr manager at Gameloft. It was good to have a flurry of activity when he arrived.

According to Linkedin he is "Digital Marketing & Community Manager at Gameloft".
One of his former posts is "Online Community Manager at Frontier Developments" so, yep, looks like he's left Frontier.

I did wonder where he'd been. Shame if he's gone. But good luck to him if he has.
